This isn't a post, this is a quality, well thought out post, dripping in sickly sarcasm and fresh from the bottom of a Stella bottle.

m and s food,, have you heard her?

you have to drag j4cko out of a kebab shop kickin and screaming on a night out.

lozgti 30 January 2007 09:12 AM

M&S is good for food

Had a Sainsbury's chinese chicken in black bean last night (necessity job.Normally have proper meal).

Yak.Won't have another

Leslie 30 January 2007 12:54 PM

M&S have always had a good reputation for class food. We will be getting one here in my home town soon and we are looking forward to it.

I don't see any point in worrying about the class of people who shop there. What the hell does that matter. The worst you can expect is to have to stand behind a middle to upper class person at the till and after all we all have an equal right to shop there. It doesn't rub off you know!

Les :)

This is the same store that sells machine washable suits for £99?
You ever tried eating one of those feckers though....... ?

;)

richiewong 30 January 2007 03:34 PM

Thats a lot of kicking and screaming in one night, what with all that I have to do to get you out.

Anyway, a takeaway Chickn kebab is up there with Mark and Spencers finest in my book.

Its annoying but, why is it that much better than any of the other supermarkets ?

Its more expensive than standard supermarket stuff but not than the posh ranges , but it is always spot on.

I get the impression that a lot of food companys make stuff to a recipe and rarely taste it themselves yet M and S actually get someone to eat it.

It annoys me as its so bloody Middle Class and smug shopping at M and S, I am not Socialist but it makes me queasy shopping there among the ranks of women in X5's and RR Sports that appear to have sod all better to do than spend all day in the place.

Why cant the other supermarkets get anywhere near ?

Edited to add, trying to cook more myself these days to avoid M and S and other ready meal type things.

Do us a favour - you should try waitrose

Firstly I agree that M&S food does taste the business, but most of the gear comes from the same places as your other stores! When I was 16 I worked for a week or so temping in some egg company. Basically they made every food product you could imagine with egg in it and they supplied the food to M&S, tesco, sainsburys, etc. It was all the same stuff - just a different label!

ditto ..:)

The packagingS fooled yer..:D

Chip Sengravy 30 January 2007 06:15 PM

we don't have waitroses in mankchester

In my opinion, it is pretentious. One of my main reasons for saying this is that it is overpriced. Mark up on simple items is such to uphold the 'pretense' of quality that M&S foods has over other suppliers, when in fact it is of similar quality (pre packed food excluded)

I know of people who also make a big thing of being able to shop exclusively at M&S (yes I know, so what), again pointing to the pretension of M&S being somewhat superior to all other shops.

The bods who have propped up this place are your ex-pat community semi government legions who once home cant bare to part with the place . And this aura has attracted your noveau riche chav onto the scene..

's way too posh for yo northerners..:D

TopBanana 30 January 2007 06:52 PM

Agree that it's stupid feeling out of place in a supermarket.

The best thing about M & S is their new service station outlets. Very convenient if you want some proper food on the road.

Seamaster 30 January 2007 06:59 PM

Waitrose and M&S rule. tescos just take the pee out from the chav customers who dont need to know Any better. Tescos couldnt give a FKuC what they sell or whats sprayed on it. I find that the difference isnt much from Tescos to Waitrose. less than £2-3 a week. The fruit and meat are far superior. Also the staff. Ever seen a M&S manager? smart and very prof. Tescos !! fat gimp in a sweater with dandruff and acne.

Chip Sengravy 30 January 2007 07:03 PM

^ Better still if work pays for it ;)

They days of soggy Ginsters sausage rolls are over!

I suppose its better than going to Asda/Tesco where the unemployed chavs are prepared to spend more on fags and lotto tickets then they are on wholesome, preservative free food for their children.:thumb:

methodman 31 January 2007 12:15 AM

no matter how much money/ where you spend it on food....

it comes out as poo anyway, :freak3:

ScoobyJawa 31 January 2007 12:19 AM

TBH I had a convo about this last night. M&S are indeed very good in food, but not what they used to be, IMHO they've slipped a little. When the food section was smaller with less products you could pretty much guarantee anything you had would be ace, but theres been a few times lately I've been underwhelmed with what I've had from there.

On the whole though far better than the others :)

You don't have to eat poo though do you? :cuckoo:

(Unless you shop at Asda)

powerman1 31 January 2007 09:42 AM

This is not just a dry cheese sandwich but a fresh farm raised goats cheese slighty matured in a aromatic flavours for over three years then lovingly sliced,Then laid on whoelmeal oven baked traditonal morrocan bread..this is not a dry cheese sandwich but an M &S Cheese sandwich :lol1:

Miss Pitstop 31 January 2007 10:24 AM

In out M & S the food department is taking over the clothing department, and its gone all trendy by selling newspaper & heat magazine by the sandwich fridges.
I have to disagree with the comment about the staff - yes the management are very well dress etc, but some of the xmas temps they had were proper chav's with lots of bling.

But you can't beat Waitrose for selection, and their fresh bread hmmn

High five

scoobynutta555 31 January 2007 10:31 AM

Just been over to France and the quality of food they have in their supermarkets put the crap we have on offer to shame. Cheaper too.

TelBoy 31 January 2007 10:35 AM

I still think M&S has the edge over Waitrose. Either way they're both great food retailers, better than ANYTHING i've ever experienced on the continent, anywhere, and one of life's pleasures. Pretentious my arse.

Flatcapdriver 31 January 2007 11:07 AM

Interestingly, I was on a course last year with the National Account Manager for one of the larger meat wholesalers and he was telling me that M&S/Waitrose essentially have the same quality standards and insist on the same cuts, whereas Sainsbury's requirements were a little lower.

We use Waitrose and occasionally buy meat there but luckily we have one of the best butchers in England in our village so the bar is set high. The only downer with Waitrose is that its in Horley, which is full of peasants.

weapon69 31 January 2007 11:26 AM

I used to work at M+S and their standards of storing it etc are nothing like the supermarkets. They don't keep stuff for weeks in the warehouse then bring it out about 2 days before it goes off like Sainsburys do:freak3:
