Unless I'm mistaken it isn't advertised as a version 5. Only the topic poster claims that. As a black STI-5 owner I can categorically confirm that the car detailed is a version 4. If its a good, clean car and at a MUCH better price than advertised then go for it :)

Standard engine power in the 4,5 and 6 is 276bhp on 100ron jap fuel. There are many versions of the 4,5 and 6 which may affect performance such as the gearing and overall weight and there are a number of cosmetic and other differences. My beef with the version 4 is the older styling and the fact you can't remap the ECU.

LG John 08 January 2007 06:31 PM

Yeah Brun :) I've not posted about it yet as I'm not 100% settled and happy with its replacement. I'll start a thread on the topic at some point but my initial impressions are still that Subaru's lack 'something'.

Brun 08 January 2007 06:32 PM

huh?
Sorry - thread hijack question fired at Saxo Boy :D

And the V4 sti was supposed to be Mr Subaru's favourite Impreza!
My old sti 4 got 313bhp with just a decat and it was totally reliable. Still going strong with the new owner, Lee!

Sold it for £7400 last Feb. And the guy travelled over 250 miles to buy it!

To be honest, i'd say the V3/V4 sti's are more reliable than the V5/V6 due the different maf sensors.
MY98's were supposed have issues with piston slap, but mine wasn't that bad, only when it was really really cold.
It is actually worse on my UK Turbo MY99, but as long as it goes after 10mins, it isn't really an issue.

You seem to be using some sort of false logic to justify the price. You say the lexus owes you 4-4.5k but you say that the guy is offering around £7k in part exchange. If that's the case it stands to reason that its 'true' value (the lexus that is) is around £7k. What it 'owes' you is irrelevant you have to asses the 'real' value of the lexus vs the 'real' value of the scooby and decide if the deal is acceptable. The first thing to note is that selling privately and buying privately will be cheaper than the px you propose but then there are greater risks/hassle, etc.

Thinking about the future - this car may not be easy to sell on as there will be plenty of people wanting to know why a V5 has a V4 front end.
As Saxo boy said, the V4 cosmetics ain't much cop compared to the V5 (IMO) and i would rather have the V5 for the ability alone to map the OE ECU.
Besides all this - £9k would be about right for a true VGC V5 but is way over the odds for a V4.
If i was gonna offer for this car, it wouldn't be more than 7.5k.
All the above IMO :p

Just remember it's a buyers market out there with regards to the Impreza.
Buy an autotrader and you will probably find 4 pages full of them :thumb:

But it is a V4. And £5900 is not a bad price, especially for a black one!

banny sti 08 January 2007 07:19 PM

A little bit expensive but this is a stunning example!!

£5900
Where did that come from? Thought the car was £8995?

Right, let's just get these points stated for everyone.

1. Car is a V4. Not a V5 with a V4 front end.

2. The car is £8995 but the prospective purchaser thinks he is getting it for £5900 as this is the amount he is having to pay out of his pocket. His current car, he owes 4500 on and he is adding £1400 cash. However as £8995-£5900 = 3095 he is effectively giving that away too.

I'm confused :wonder:
Doesn't take much though! :D

Brun 08 January 2007 07:46 PM
