my close friend has had 5 of these!!! and owns the GT 03 in nurburgring blue at the mo. Great cars, the earlier a bit twitchy but great car, Take the air box off and listen to that sound in V tEC Absolutly gorgeous. (you loose a bit of performace and also on idle once hot, a bit of shoaking due to the hot air!! lol)
Id love to own one of these i have driven it many many times and still love it.
Once V tec is engaged in 2nd gear thats not many cars that can pull on it.. we have a 340bhp sti8 and in 2nd they were neck and neck.
the flat spot is ofcourse before Vtec. but you can buy a super charger ;)
i love the S.. very Driftable too :)

That's the reason I bought one Dream. I thought it would be an outstanding summer car but impractical and a nightmare during the winter. For over a year it was my only car and it was perfectly practical and I came to realise that it was just as much fun in the winter. Roof down on crisp icy mornings with a beenie and the heating turned up full is great :) It's even better when there is light snow and you have the roof down :cool:

Just bought an S2 about a month ago. It is, as SB suggested, an entirely different type of package to the WRX and indeed the other 4wd turbo cars I've owned. If you want to go as quickly as possible, you're not bothered about having to think or set-up the car through a corner then always, always go for the scoobie. Yet, if you like your driving to be challenging and therefore rewarding there is no competition. The S2 is a classic rear wheel drive sports car, it handles like one and provides smiles like one.
In my view, driving a WRX is like a driving a Focus (although the plastics are a bit better in the Ford!) it's very simple and you don't have to put much craft into it - speed and predcitability makes them popular. They are very different ownership prospects and both great cars in their own right - I got bored of the easy way to travel quickly and like the challenge. However, I must admit on a wet, muddy day I'd rather be in my wife's 4wd Octavia.
As for the 1 second difference between 0-100 times etc - I think if that really sways your purchase decision then somehow you're missing out on the joy of driving. If it's all about 0-60s and 0-100s then go buy a bike and have done with every S2 and WRX on the road.

As Saxoboy well tell you ;) , the S2000 is well capable of keeping up with modded Scoobs and whipping the arse of the cooking models (although mine's a modded lardy Newage !).

I also have a light 2 seat conv. rwd. that is fast in the right conditions.
It is slow now as it does not go out from Sept. till Easter.

Wheelshop have our paths crossed? Played with quite a few scoobys since I got the S2000. I've beaten more than I've lost to in a straight line but a substantial ratio but on a c-class backroad between Drem and Haddinton I got nailed. When it comes to most quiet rural roads in Scotland you just can't touch a scooby for outright pace. Nevertheless, I'm willing to bet I was having more fun that day than the other guy ;)

Hi there, I dont know if I have seen you, the S2000 was a yellow one with an S2000 plate (S200 0##) I think.I was very impressed It would have had most scoobs, mine was a 387BHP wagon at the time.
I also have a toy (well the wifes really) it only goes out in good weather tho.

Have driven the S2K (a couple of years ago) extensively and while they are amazing machines when at full chat (sublime handling, awesome engine, gearbox), around the City the non-existent torque is extremely frustrating.

So if it was my everyday car in the City of London, I would be bored out of my mind.

Other than that, on B roads, A Roads, the S2K is amazingly satisfying.

I now own an Evo 8 and maybe its just my tyres, but the S2000 is much more competent on tight bends, ie going round roundabouts etc. The EVO excels in terms of grip on the twisty country road stuff.

If you know me from here, you will know I change cars a lot, and dont keep stuff long. I had the S2000 for 18 months which is a record by far. I will have another one too. Amazing piece of engineering.

I think its all been said on tuning too - the thread Kenny linked to is good. I wouldnt delude yourself with superchargers or turbos until tou have it all totally read up and know all the issues!

ITB's are pretty pointless unless you have modded cams, and supporting breathing mods. They cost well over a grand too so you have to ask if its worth it. Nothing comes cheap either. I had a £1600 intake on mine :D and probably gave a good handful of bhp - most give nothing. I had mine Unichiped and that worked well.

When trying one, you have to drive it for a good while. Many try it, accuse it of lacking power / torque and dont buy one - which is great as they are normally straigh line power mongers. The S2000 is a true drivers car and you get out of it every time feeling like you have driven it. Best gear change you can get, razor sharp steering, no driver aids, monocoque chassis, monster brakes... need I go on.... :)

The Jap racing scene loves them too. This video by driving god, Gan San, is very interesting. Note he says its quicker than the NSX on the ring!

I test drove a brand new 2004 one and that was very predictable round the bends when pushed hard.....the earlier ones were supposed to be twitchy....(havent driven an earlier one)

Seriously, if you are no driver then best just to drive like a pussy inthe wet. The back can swing out under VTEC, and its far too fast for most to catch. I loved it :D

I notice you commented the same on the ITR regarding power etc. These cars arent meant for poncing around town in, from traffic jam to traffic jam. Onthe move the S2000 would keep up with some quite big stuff.

Non existant torque? Drop it down a gear - what its for ;)

Easily said, but that soon becomes tedious when you are driving in the City - The novelty wears off. The "R" cars and the S2K are really designed to be thrashed - track, open roads, A, B roads...not really for London or such built up areas.

My brother has an ITR and I used to have a Prelude 2.2Vti for 2.5 yrs so am very well versed on how to manage a VTEC thankyou very much. :D

I really can't understand the 'around town' comments. I honestly never find the car lacking for hacking around. The car I had before my S2000 was a 3.0 V6 and it would pull hard from 1500rpm in top gear. It made town driving easy but I certainly didn't jump into the S2000 and feel hard done by :)

My scooby and the TT I drove were arguably worse waiting for the screws (although auto was great for lazy driving in TT).

It comes down to what you want in a car as I've been saying all along but I do think its unfair to say the S2000 is bad around town - it's just not as good as a big cc car.

I compared the S2K experience to my Prelude 2.2 Vti. The Prelude seemed to have more low down torque than the S2K. The S2k is like the "R" from Honda, optimised for racing, higher revs, higher power output at the expense of torque.

I dont compare it to my Supra TT, that is a completely different beast :D

Each to their own.

S2K for me was boring around London just like my brothers ITR, on an open road round Kent, A roads and B roads - I love these cars.

Having just had my first puncture in 17 years of driving and not being able to get the punctureed wheel in the boot and having to convince the GF that she needs to have it on her lap I would say they are rubbish!!!

(Nearly the best car I've owned though really ;) )

So the S2 doesn't have enough torque 'around town'? That'll be the place where there are a load of 30 limits, children, cyclists etc all in one of the most densely-populated, jam-ridden cities in the world......

Obviously hindsight here, but what you're supposed to do it remove the toolkit in the boot to reveal a space where you put the wheel in upright. It fits there. I believe instructions are in the manual.

If you can't do that, then put the wheel in the front seat and put the g/f in the boot :D

Can you believe, I drove over a 'key' that went straight in the tyre.
Repairable? Not advisable? (I don't think so but the tyre isn't that old annoyingly..)

SB - The 360 was *awesome* loved EVERY second but thankfully didn't have to service it or fix anything (other than a new battery).
Did 3000 miles over Germany/France/Switzerland/Austria in the S2k - Roof down most of the time and loved it. Would have loved to do it in the Fezza but seriously tough call as to which would have been better.

Hmmm, tried that on mine once but no luck. Mustn't have tried very hard! Having said that, I was surprised that Honda would have designed it that way....
