I purposely ran the same hill before i filled then 5 miles to fill up and back for a blast up the hill and it felt like the power was being better sustained (almost like it wasnt dropping off as rapidly).
You did 5 whole miles with the super juice and the car felt that much better???????

For christ sake it really will not make much difference, it's all in your head mate!!

Been posted many times before on other V-Power threads... the measure of a good fuel is not directly proportional to the RON rating - there are other factors involved!

Bubba po 18 September 2006 11:06 PM

I don't believe you can tell the difference. It's all BOLLOCKS.

Ben v7 18 September 2006 11:23 PM

Think what you like... doesn't bother me what rubbish you choose to fill your car up with.

Yes, and afterwards im being told the reason is possibly due to the Newage ECU (bearing in mind mine is an 06) is capable of being able to adapt very quickly to changes and advance as required. I had blasted about 3 of those miles on a Dual Carriageway before too.

LankyDave 19 September 2006 11:50 AM

V-Power, a lot of marketing hype it may be but, and this is a big but, I've owned my car for over a year and it has always returned between 19 and 21 mpg. After the switch to the new fuel, for the last four tanks or so and i'm now getting between 23 and 25 mpg. I'm not going to harp on about this but there is a differance imho without doubt.
As for more power, I'm not sure, I have never really noticed the difference between a foggy day and a warm summer one! Seems smoother though with less hesitation.

Moley 19 September 2006 11:57 AM

I was first impressed with the V Power stuff, but the last few times i have filled up it has been with Tesco stuff, and i am finding Tesco's much better.

Although i have also felt a bit colder recently, so it might be down to the temperatue dropping a bit.

h4rry 19 September 2006 03:56 PM

Would just like to clarify what i said in original thread for those who seem to be having a go for expressing my personal opinion of a new product:

Quote
"Wrexhams only Shell Garage has finally took delivery of shell V-POWER , and i filled my scoob up with it on Saturday afternoon and was suprised to see such a noticiable difference in the way the car drove, it was immediatly more resopnsive, smoother and seemed to accelerate quicker .....maybe that was just the smoothness.

I would recommend this stuff to anyone, as this will be the only juice my scoob will be running on from now on!

What made it better was, with the reduction in fuel prices v-power as 95.9p/ltr is actually cheeper than the standard crap ive been putting in my company car for the last year!! Result! "

Where in the above do i say it has increased power??? All i stated was:

Quote
"more resopnsive, smoother and seemed to accelerate quicker"

I dont want to get into an agrument with anyone as i have limited technical knowledge, especially to this level about the performance of cars etc but i have to agree with MARMSKI's comment:

Quote
"I havent been on this forum for long (infact only since i got my STi), but one thing i have noticed is how quick some people are to jump on others comments in a negative way. The poster said he notices the difference in his opinion, i notice it in mine... you cant really say someones opinion is wrong just because yours isnt the same. Maybe some people are more sensitive to smaller changes than others.. "

Has it ever occured to these kind of people that all members of scooby net are not technically minded to the same level as they are and are just commenting on something from their experiances!

There are some very helpful people on this website and i have found out (and learnt) loads in the 3 months of owning my impreza and id like to thank all those helpful people out there!

Again, rant over! LOL - enjoy

chriswsti05 19 September 2006 04:12 PM

05 STI with PPP:

Optimax - Happy
Tesco 99 - Crappy
V-Power - Very Happy
V-Power + Millers Octane Plus - Extremely happy !

;)

h4rry 19 September 2006 04:24 PM

Just extending this post slightly, has anyone found out what the confirmed RON rating of V-power is yet???

andythejock01wrx 19 September 2006 05:08 PM

99+

PeteBrant 19 September 2006 05:12 PM

Shell say it's 99.

Martin2005 19 September 2006 08:02 PM

I wasn't having a go and I use V Power (used to use Optimax). Now there may well be marginal differences in performance (haven't noticed any myself), but the improvements people are banging on about would indicate some kind of quantum leap and sorry but to quote Victor Meldrew, I just don't believe it.
Maybe a better response would have been to ask, what were you running your car on before? If it wasn't Optimax or equivilant then I can understand a noticeable performace difference, if not then you're probably imagining it. And I say this in a completely 'non jumping down anyone throat way'.

Ben v7 20 September 2006 02:00 PM

I didn't notice that much of a difference in out right performance but the car is running more smoothly, particuarly when coming on boost. Feels more comfortable over 6,000rpm also... with V-Power it runs somewhere between how it did on Optimax and Optimax plus booster. V-Power plus booster is now very nice.

To put it in perspective though, we are definately talking about small improvements! Nothing spectacular ofcourse but enough to notice. All depends on the car though too - mine is running an aggressive map so perhaps benefiting more... pleased I don't feel like I need to put the booster in all the time anymore.

h4rry 20 September 2006 03:39 PM

Most of the time i used tesco super unleaded but have always found supermarket fuel to me crappyer that shell or esso high octane fuel.

Whatever the outcome of this thread now, i have noticed a difference (however small) using v-power and the majority seem to agree with me.

misty 20 September 2006 04:25 PM

Well at the end of the day one thing is for sure......Seeing as the price has come down from ridiculous to scandalous!!! Gordon brown will be putting it again at the end of this month...

Yes that's exactly what will happen... then prices can rise and smash all previous records next time there is a blip in the market. Really fighting the urge to resist a good vent... especially when you consider what they squander the money on - nothing that's going to be of any benefit to me or the people I care about, that's for sure.

Sweep stake anybody on next years high after the tax rise? £1.30? £1.40? £1.50?

andythejock01wrx 20 September 2006 10:18 PM

Maybe's aye, maybe's naw...........He will be looking for a new job soon after all !!

andythejock01wrx 20 September 2006 10:21 PM

And some politicians want £1800 car tax for gas guzzlers (that's us guys !).

Bubba po 20 September 2006 10:56 PM

I can tell the difference between "I can't believe it's not butter" and "Utterly Butterly", me. :smug: My toast goes like **** off of a stick with ICBINB, but there's a little hesitation with UB. :)

IT'S NOT MY IMAGINATION.

Blimey Bubba - nearly 50,000 posts! Have they all been as high quality as these?

Most have been better than this whole thread. The mere supposition that Joe Pleb can tell one RON's difference in their car is the stuff of daydreams. We need James Randi to come and debunk the ****e we hear on here daily. I challenge any one of you feejits to tell the difference in a double-blind test between any of the commonly-available fuels. Christ, I reckon half wouldn't know if they'd put diesel in.

Ben v7 20 September 2006 11:13 PM

But it's not all down to just the RON rating as posted up earlier. There are other factors such as rate of burn, calorific value etc...

I certainly can tell the difference in mine.

Bubba po 20 September 2006 11:15 PM

BOL-LOCKS. :)

Bubba po 20 September 2006 11:19 PM

Put a quantified, empirical test up here, Ben. 0-60, 0-100 etc, with the different fuels in. I'm not in the business of believing "Emperor's New Clothes" stories. I have a standard turbo, and I CANNOT TELL THE DIFFERENCE between normal UL and V-Power- and that's a four point difference. It's bollocks.

andythejock01wrx 20 September 2006 11:20 PM

C'mon Bubba, get it right !! (It's 0.4 of a RON, not 1 Ron !). ;)
