LOL. It had to come out eventually. But that one i agree with.
buy a cocklink and watch as its lights tell you that...........................yes indeed they do change colours. And your car is imminently about to self destruct into one million million pieces! But you could always sell your mods off if it does! Haha.
Do cocklinks come with a built in cap?
Of the Burberry colour?
With suitable shell suits attached and a comlete re-write of the English language?
:lol1:

It's also known as a Random Light Generator ...... LED's Coloured from RED to ORANGE to GREEN.

A knock sensor is fitted to somewhere on the engine block (SUBARU have taken the best place with theirs which connects direct to the cars ECU).

You then run the engine and adjust the lights until you only get GREEN and NEVER RED!

This adjustment makes it the most useless piece of ****e ever to be fitted to a car in history! (its the same as fitting a speedo but glueing the needle at 120MPH to look good!)

Anyway - if it shows RED your car is fooooooked ..... thats about it really!

However, it can impress your mates if they are younger than 15 years old and your Chavvie mates will think you are well cool!!

Product description: Brand new Knocklink for the 1992-2000 Import & UK Subaru Impreza STi, WRX, UK Turbo, Type-R, P1, Wagon. Something we recommend to anyone with a modified turbo-charged car is a relatively simple little device known as a Knocklink. The Knocklink is a little black box with a series of LEDs that light up indicating the occurrence and severity of ‘knock’ in your engine. But what is ‘knock’?Knock, otherwise known as detonation, pre-ignition, pinging and even pinking is the spontaneous combustion of the air/fuel mixture BEFORE the spark fires. This uncontrolled and unwanted explosion can be extremely destructive. The high temperatures, load and pressure spikes associated with ‘knock’ can be nine or ten times greater than the force resulting from controlled combustion. No combination of forged pistons, billet rods, strengthened cranks will withstand detonation over a period of time, think for a minute how many potential knocks can occur as you push your engine to redline.
But why do I need one?

The first thing the Knocklink will alert you to is the state of your tune. If the Knocklink is not lighting up at full throttle through the rev range in all gears then all is good.

BUT, what about bad fuel, clogged or faulty injectors, boost spikes, fuel supply, heat soak and the many other reasons that knock can occur. The Knocklink will act as an early warning system alerting you to the fact that you have a problem and potentially save an expensive engine rebuild. And with bad fuel being our biggest problem these days the Knocklink is cheap insurance.

Okay, so exactly how does it work?

A separate knock sensor is fitted to the engine adjacent to the factory knock sensor, this is then wired to the Knocklink box which is connected to power. The Knocklink’s sensitivity is then adjusted to suit the engine so that the difference between ‘normal’ engine noise and ‘knock’ can be determined.

As you can see from the pic above the Knocklink is not exactly the neatest package and it can be difficult to find a suitable mounting point in a lot of cars.

In order to solve this problem the Knocklink ‘outrigger’ was developed, this modified Knocklink relocates the LEDs out onto a remote lead that can be positioned virtually anywhere in the cabin.:thumb:

The Subaru sensor is crap and deaf at high revs. Also, the ECU only has limited knock retardation so if something is going really wrong you will still get knock and not know.

Cue Pete's "I can hear my engine" line...

AlloyUK 07 May 2006 07:21 PM

Many thanks, are they expensive ?

OK, prove it ... lets see some independant DATA to prove it - or, are you just copying what you've heard on here??

Why are people so pathetic that they cannot think logically for themselves? Not aimed at only you tath ... just in general.
