rik1471 23 March 2006 10:52 AM

Chelsea Tractors. No need for them in most cases.

If you spend your whole life within the confines of London, then that's possibly true, but you seem to have the same view as the government, that England and the voters stop at the M25.

I often joke with car cleaning places who charge an extra pound for 4x4's when they clean my scooby, thanking them for not charging me the extra ;)
I wonder if people with fiat pandas do the same!! :D

I often wondered this when going through the carwash.

How about going in with a big suv and claiming the propshaft has been disconnected so its only 2wd.

In my case, make sure the 4wd Lock button is set to off on the dash and it is!!

Amusingly when I was looking for my 4x4 in the states, none of the big trucks here are 4x4 as standard. They are generally all RWD, 4x4 is an option on the 4x4's!!!! And some of these things are sooooooooo big, whith two feet of ground clearance!

Anyway, first weekend I went to the beach in my 4x4, there were three pick up trucks and two BIG BIG SUV's being dragged off DAMP sand by a JCB!

Quality! Idiots! :lol1:

legb4rsk 23 March 2006 02:52 PM

I don't care what people drive ,given the state of the roads lately a big 4x4 seems to be the sensible choice but I do object to the people who have an SUV which I guess has had the front end designed to be as pedestrian freindly as possilble given the height etc. then go & stick loads of ironmongery on the front to make sure they kill you properly.I havn't seen many elk around here lately!
Is this illegal yet?

You can't purchase a new one with a bull bar fitted, but they can sell you one to fit as soon as it's off the forecourt.

With all the dippy buggars riding bikes with no lights, a set of bull bars up the ass is just what they need

AudiLover 23 March 2006 04:27 PM

these people who protest about such 4*4's moan about them being gas guzzling things but are too stupid to realise that there are certain cars which are worse, and some mpv's and 4x4's have better economy/mpg than cars.
Yeah but thats not the argument.

4X4's are meant to go off road. Yet if its not a nissan, mitsubishi or a old landrover theyre pretty much incapable of going offroad properly. Therefore they are just cruising about in great barges that are pointless when a car does everything they require and better.

The reason why no one goes on at performance car drivers is because people actually drive fast in them time to time.

Quite frankly SUV owners are a bit dumb but what make me laugh is all the RAV4 owners who whine at this when a RAV4 I sure as hell dont even consider as a SUV. Dont have a problem with those at all. Still dont see why they buy a RAV4 though because cars have more space than those things.

 why oh why do some people keep tarring all 4x4 owners with the same
brush ? any vehicle can kill ! not just 4x4s. Over 150 people have been killed
by cattle in fields in recent years ! better shoot them all too, just in case anybody else gets killed !!!!!!!:cuckoo:

richs2891 23 March 2006 06:09 PM

Personally dont have a problem with 4x4 if you want to drive them, fine with me. Its all comes down to personal choice in my book !

Re the bull bars - most insurance companies dont like them - especially the older style metal ones, had to take them of my old classic gas converted Range Rover, Not fair now have to stop and open the gates instead of just pushing them open !

And yes I have a legitate excuse for a big heavy 4x4 - Scooby will not go down the un made dirt track that leads to my farm house !

As Mr.Greenpeace commented ,what wasted opportunity.! New labia wishy washy half measures ..- if they were seriously attempting to make a dent in these peoples outlook then a more realistic figure would have been put forward - say a grand

The people who hate big 4x4's should in therory hate every car, unless its a electric piece of junk like a Prius, what about scoobs, they cant be any better to the environment that a SUV, i get the same MPG| from my 4.6 Range as I do on my 400BHP scoob. whats the difference? Im no rally driver either so should I have a rally car. Nor do I go off road in the range.

If I wanted to drive a Tank I would, screw you hippies with your anti SUV mumbo jumbo

Scooby-Doo 23 March 2006 06:51 PM

The injuries suffered by a pedistrian getting hit by a 4x4 is in actual fact less than a car travelling at the same speed. FACT

pollack 23 March 2006 06:51 PM

Well said, although I'm not sure a tank would make it up Park St or Whiteladies! Certainly not Blackboy Hill! Good fun on the downs, though! ;)

Would it be a British tank?

This chap may just POSSIBLY have just cause to own such a vehicle

swaussie 23 March 2006 10:06 PM

I had a 3 hour drive in a Porsche Cayenne Turbo a few weeks back. To me it was simply dangerous. It had more power than a harrier jump jet but still turned and braked like a 4x4.

Its simply a status symbol as there is no "Legitimate" reason to own one of those things. If you need to go "offroad" you are not going to be doing it in a Porsche, Toureg, X5 etc so what is the point? Why do people feel the need to impress the Jones' with how much money they make ??

Besides the Range Rover Supercharged version was a far, far better car (IMHO).

Yeah because your subaru is a rally car :lol1:

Look people dont like SUVs because most of them are basically just jacked up cars with less capabilities therefore making them pointless. Its the pointlessnes of the SUV that people dont like about. You are wasting fuel when a car can do everything better than the SUV but instead you buy it because you think it looks cool.

Iwan 23 March 2006 10:38 PM

I used to drive a 4x4 for a couple of years. I don't think it was overkill as I'm not sure if a family hatchback/saloon would have been adequate for carrying passengers and guns/fishing rods to the places I went. :)

what a load of tree hugging disabled lesbians...........has broad band just been installed at some camp site for an anti roads protest????

if you want a big car you should be able to buy one....an X5 is VERY little bigger than an estate car in length and width. this thread smacks of anti money and that it.............an X5 say "i spent £45k" and thats your problem.

i dont fancy them much but the more i read stuff like this the more i want one! with the biggest alloys i can find and drug dealer tints.

get back to your treehuts.

I have an X5 it goes off road to chase pikeys of my land and I fill it with stuff I buy from the market a few times a week so why the fcuk should I have have to justify my choice of car to anyone else. The 'you don't need a car that big so you can't have it argument' is bull****. Unless every car capable of breaking the speed limit is subject to extra tax. The tax to be honest is a joke its cost £80 to fill up and it does 16mpg if I'm lucky so what difference is that extrabit of tax going to make ?

Tiggs 24 March 2006 01:28 AM

"Why do people feel the need to impress the Jones' with how much money they make ?? "

why shouldnt they?

if someone works out they wear skimpier clothes to show off what they are proud of......why not the same if they make a bit of money?

why should someone able to drive an X5 drive a cheaper car to make the poor people feel more "less poor"............what next, shall i strap a false belly on my 6pack so faties dont feel ugly?

Rabid 24 March 2006 07:01 AM

An X5 doesn't say I've got lots of money, it says I couldn't afford a Cayenne so bought this..........

Rabid,

A Cayenne is cheaper than an X5 so bit lost on your logic. Thought you were creative or is the creative streak holding the mayo for someone.

I thought your original reply where you said "I own an X5 and earn more money in a week than you earned in the last 5 years" was more representative of X5 owners.
Why did you change it?

Scooby-Doo 24 March 2006 07:52 AM

I drive an X5. It is clear from sitting in my castle that I earn far more money than you :) and yes I have a massive credit agreement with BMW.
