just a hand will do;)

pugsleygti 03 March 2006 11:55 PM

no offence black wrx but this is a scooby forum i thought, so u going around bragging about your mates pulsar isn't really what i want to read about i'd imagine though a 2.5L scooby with 400 odd bhp will wipe the floor over the quarter mile of pretty much any pulsar(except that monster one that AWD have) thats of course if a pulsar can make it down the strip with out it over heating or the gear box dropping out of it and if they do manage to make it will there be enough run off for it to stop

95blackWRX 03 March 2006 11:58 PM

dont get in a huff i have a scoob. the thread is about the pulsar, i can just appreciate other cars thats all

owbow 04 March 2006 12:59 AM

the level of arrogance in some of your replies beggars belief! my best m8 Rich had a £2000 one until very recently, Std LHD German spec with slight boost upgrade and a £20 cone filter, zero ££ spent otherwise except for CastrolRS, fuel and tyres really.

Only scoobs that ever got near it were BIG £££ classics or BIG £££ newish ones... on handling and outright grunt. Savage power delivery utter reliability apart from an £80 synchro replacement (done by ourselves in 2 nights, easy job)

Saying that, anyone who would slate the Pulsar would pour even more scorn on my personal choice, Toyota Celica GTFour ST185......

yeah, old and slow :)

celica is a lovely car really like the look of those.ur right the power delivery on the pulsar is pretty salage dont know what it is about them but they are a lot quicker than scoobs

EddScott 04 March 2006 09:41 AM

I miss my GTIR loads. Only owned it for like 18 months and cost me a fortune. My Impreza I've owned for nearly 3 years and its been as honest as the day and cost nowt in repairs.

Still want an R though :)

a gtir would beat a standard scoob easy in a straight line for acceleration, they arent geared for 160, you would be lucky to get 150 out of one due to the jap sleek aerodynamics.
However I think Alan with a 400/400 scoob would just have the edge. Round a track though the gtir are no match, a metro would out handle one

turbine 04 March 2006 12:16 PM

Have beaten every scoob I have raced in my R, EVOLUTION just ask jon on the forum from ashford,
and the gearbox thing is pub talk as for handling mine has nismo suspension and is very unlike a standard R

AudiLover 04 March 2006 12:44 PM

Isnt it true that the scoobs on sale today only have around 260bhp? The ones without prodrive mods.

Pulsar are very fast cars and can handle the power ok. Ive see quite a few 400hp+ ones.

EVOLUTION 04 March 2006 01:02 PM

how on earth you can say he would wipe the floor with nearly all scoobs is beyond beliefe.

you have not posted what spec his car is.

i gave you a real life experience, some guy claimed to have a 300+bhp pulsar that i wiped the floor with fair and square, im going to go back through the results on YORKS website, maybe one of you will recognise the owners name. Its there in black and white..

Now because i beat 1, did you hear me say that i can beat them all??? no, dont think you did....

As for your WRX, an interesting point, there were several lightly modded classic WRX's that seen the rear of my back end down the strip, inc an EVO FQ330MR (not quite the back end, but a straight win never the less)

you might have loads of power, but being able to use it is another...

i should also point out that mine is a new blobeye poverty model WRX PPP

so nothing flash then eh........

good day to you all

john

they do have weak gearboxes it is a common problem, I know I used to have one (had to replace the gbox as well) the handling is ****e as standard and therefore can be improved. However it is still ****e end of compared to a standard scoobs handling, and we wont even start with the brakes....:wonder:

to be honest it would be a claim or more likely the driver was sh!t. A 300bhp gtir will slaughter a standard scoob, especially a scoob that isnt a classic on the straights.
A standard gtir will do a mid 13 second quarter. It will take a few mods for a scoob to get those times

bolox, 13.7 in a standard WRX terminal speed of 92mph..... Standard blobeye, it wasnt even run in, had 1,500 miles on the clock

he was level off the start with me and he ran a 13.9....

john

EVOLUTION 04 March 2006 07:03 PM

sainsburys super crap juice as well i might add, full tank of...

whats bollox? a standard gtir is capable of doing a 13.4 quarter with a terminal speed of 100.48mph with a 1.94 60 ft. So I will say the driver was ****, missed a change or something.

A standard scoob will not do that, look at my post. Yours has been ppp'd so its not standard!

its standard as far as it came out the showroom like that so it is standard mate..., would you consider any of the evos above the FQ260 modded??? cos i wouldnt, they can be ought like that there fore they are in standard spec. Besides, even with prodrive, its still only at the 265 mark...and it did run 13.7, and im guessing that now, it will be better considering that that was my only runs in the dry, had a bit practice now and i reckon it will be under the 13.5 mark.....

as for the pulsar doing those as standard, i would very much like to see it run a 13.4, thats not saying they cant, i would simply like to see it

jaytc2003 05 March 2006 10:28 AM

hmmm ppp, a factory fitted option which ups power, therefore not standard. The Evo's I wouldnt class as modded as they are built specifically, ie not a factory option. (although you could obviously tune a standard evo to the same power) It is a different car. What you have just said is you can buy a modded car but you can call it standard as it was available to buy???. Anyway this is going totally off topic from the original post, which I feel I am qualified to answer as I have owned both cars.

TK-WRX 05 March 2006 10:52 AM

 :lol1: my cars faster than yours :lol1:

personally i like the pulsars, but have never owned one,was also thinking about one as an option as a track car but reading this has put me off as most say there ****e handling,

jaytc2003 05 March 2006 11:00 AM

for a track car you would seriously need to uprate the brakes as well, if you think scoob brakes are bad then the gtir/pulsar are a lot worse.
For what its worth I loved mine at the time, it had road presence, the bonnet is just awesome!!

You can call it what you like mate, my basic point is, there CRAP, henca the reason why there isnt a modern day equivalent

jaytc2003 05 March 2006 01:56 PM

which is what i have basically said other than in a straight line!! Its a great engine though

Most of that can be dialed out with the right mods. I read a while back about a GTIR with all manner of whiteline goodies on it and it was quite a competent track car.

I still have the article here so if anyone is interested PM me and I'll send it on.

I have a gtir now, i went from a my99 sti, my gtir has tein coilcovers all round and with this it handles much better than the scoob ever did, the gtir is running standard boost, but only need a couple more mods to run 1 bar of boost and then they seam to put out between 270-280 bhp. and when i do this, i think it will be faster than my scoob was and for ALOT less £££

How are you finding the change? I have a UK turbo and its now become a weekend car so was thinking about getting something a little rarer.

I do miss my old one alot but not sure if I really want to go back - misses always complained about feeling sick in it :)
