They are obviously panicking now - The tories have them on the run - The budget was cobbled together to try and steal some of the tory thunder (£200.00 council tax rebate for pensioners - where did they get that idea? - erm...from the tories last week :rolleyes: )

I would've agreed with this statement until recently, but now Im not so sure. Looking at other forums for example, here we see 65% plan to vote Tory, with Labour coming in 3rd with only 15%.

matters not a jot to me TBTO - they are all equally inefficient liars, but it just bugs me that they can spout this crap and people believe it. On the other hand, if I give advice, it has to be correct, fair, clearly worded and in the best interest of the client, otherwise I get shafted by the FSA. I would like to see the FSA have a run through of some of the promises and forecasts made by TB and GB in the past 8 years.

A statistic like that is sooo dodgy I'm surprised it doesn't get everybody's alarm bells ringing. There is clearly some serious distortion of the economy going on for a figure like that to be valid.

I think you will find that very few of the polls support your ignorant and biased opinion.

I think it was something like 50 consecutive quarters of growth, during which time manufacturing has lost 1 million jobs, so the jobless totals and the growth figures have been shored up by increasing taxes and increasing public borrowing, followed by increased spending onpublic services. There will come a point where this cannot continue, and when we hit that point it will take years and years to recover.
That point will come when public borrowing hits 40% of GPD, which isn't too far away, with manufacturing on the decline and borrowing on the increase

People who go on about manufacturing job losses need to realise that it's becoming impossible to compete with countries that can manufacture identical goods but have wages of £1/hour, and with none of the employment protection and benefits we have in this country.

The move over to a primarily service, hi-tech and knowledge based economy is not only one of the reasons we're doing comparitively well compared to many other EU countries, but is a long term necessity if we're going to keep the edge and continue to enjoy good standards of living.

As to the government, yes it has its faults, but the strength of the economy and opportunities available speak for themselves. Even if they didn't it would be difficult to see anyone but Labour winning the general election as there is just no credible opposition. If Ken Clarke had made party leader a few years ago the Tories may have had a chance, but there were too many internal divisions and too much in-fighting for it to happen. He would have drawn voters to the party. People such as Howard or IDS just scare them away.

You can always give the impression that things look good on the face of it by borrowing money and throwing it about.

Trouble is, there comes a time when it has to be paid back-like after the election!
