The Initial D anime always annoyed me (and I love anime) with it's mix of 3D car graphics that look like they reprogrammed a Ridge Racer cabinet to do the rendering and horrible 2D character design overlayed on top as they go on about how great their cars are, it's the kind of conversation you can hear in most Halfords car parks on a Friday night, only in Japanese.

OTOH, the arcade game is excelent, even if it is a bit of a rice boy simulator. It's almost as much of a money sink as a real car, however as the number of time you need to play it in order to get all the stars marked on your card is insane. The cars do handle very realistically however, which is good.

I'd rather just take my Legacy out in the twisties though :)

The real Kanji place names are a bit different from the cartoon version. Yes, those places do actually exist, from the starting point service area, to those hairpins, to the volcanic lake which Takumi likes to visit. The tofu shops apparently also exists in real life, tho under a different name.
Btw, Jay Chou will be Takumi in the film. Don't remember whether 'Dori Dori' (Keiichi Tsuchiya) has anything to do with this film.
