I think a lot of you WR1 haters have missed the point. The WR1 came out a year ago and at the time was the fastest most powerful UK Impreza money could buy. It was a Japanese STi brought to the UK roads with a full 3 year warranty. The dccd-a was awesome and Subaru saw the opportunity in introducing it the the new STi models.

The car was tricked out and made into a limited edition and the colour choice will always ensure that it remains a collectors item.

Technology advances every year and car companies like Subaru will always introduce the technology whenever they can to stay ahead of the game. YEs the new STi is awesome but it is the new car ... the WR1 is a year old and 1 year back nobody could say anything because it was the fastest and was the most powerful and was the most tricked out UK approved impreza.

The fact that is has only lost 2.5k on prices over the year reflects the fact it is a special edition. It will hold it's money just like the P1 and 22B regardless of what all of the ill-informed haters believe to be true.

I know this because I looked to part ex mine last week for a Noble and was offered 27k plus 5k for all my mods.

The 06 2.5ltr will have a 380bhp PPP kit - that will blow the p@nts off the new STi and the residuals will plummet. The WR1 on the other hand will not be hit as badly because of it's limited numbers and special edition status.

Regardless of what any of the people on here who have a serious problem with the WR1 say the facts remain. 1 year back it was the most awesome UK impreza money could buy. In a year things happen and of course the new STi was going to use the technology from the WR1 - it was a raving success.

secondly, re: the ltd. edition status, yes the P1 has held reasonable money and the 22b is still going strong.
but care to compare your cars to a McRae series or a terzo or a Cat, are these fetching top book?

The WR1 is not a JDM STi brought to the UK. It has effectively the DCCD-A taken from the Jap car and added. If not, you'd better get onto Subaru UK and ask for the Engine, turbo, exhaust, dashboard etc back to get it to JDM spec.

out of interest - where does an 04 JDM STI rate against a WR1 and a uk 05 STI then as an overall package?

Did they sell all of the WR1s at the full price
 

My understanding is that they didn't and a few towards the end had to be knocked out cheaper, some under the guise of Ex-demonstrators, yeah right!

I think judging by the positive and negative reponses that it was yet another good example of IM 'specials' and would only have been bettered if they had opted for a better colour and better decals, RB5 colour being a good example.

IM will always be looking to maximise sales and to do this will be constantly upgrading the specs to get us fans of the marque to upgrade as well as bring along new customers, it's a fact of life!

Knowing and understanding this as an important consideration may help us get the best spec at the best price at the right time and being able to drive our cherished motors for a reasonable period of time before feeling that we've just been mugged by Subaru UK
