A good friend of mine received one of these because a resident of a road that he drove along on his way to work complained that he didn't like the sound his 911 made going past his house in the early morning. 2 police cars and 2 police land rovers were waiting for him outside his work on a friday night, they let him get halfway up the road then blocked him in, threw him in a squad car and searched the porsche. One phone call to his solicitor on the monday morning and it was wiped off his record immediately and he received an apology. But, for the next few weeks there was a speed trap on that road every morning as he drove past.

It's quite funny being thought of as a boy racer at the age of 42 but I probably deserve it. I feel that if a make anything of this with the police then I too may find a speed trap around the corner!!
Andy H Sti -- yes it is a Section 59 -- although not given to me in person by the police.

Just been thinking -- the potential use of this law seems to be somewhere along the line of "We cant actually get him for anything else so we'll get him on this one!!"

A bit scary really -- £105 a throw. At least there's no points I suppose.

i had a copper stop me and quote this reform act thingy at me, took my name and address but never actually made me sign anything or give me any sort of paperwork, would this still be legit or was he just trying to give me a scare?

They can only do this if they are in uniform, does this mean if they are driving home ??

Vehicles used in manner causing alarm, distress or annoyance
(1) Where a constable in uniform has reasonable grounds for believing that a motor vehicle is being used on any occasion in a manner which-
he shall have the powers set out in subsection (3).
