In my job in IT, i work all day long with mixed systems, be they PC or mac and although i am a die in the wool mac addict, I have both on my desk at work and at home.until microsoft brought out Office 2004 and fixed the exchange problems, i used the pc for email but now it is getting used less :)
At home the mac rules, simply because it does everything i need, including web development, programming, browsing, office stuff etc etc. but when i want to play Counterstrike I have to sidle over the the PC (XP) and kick my 4 year old son off it so daddy can play !!
So PC still wins for game play (just as the mac now has loads of titles) but the mac does everything and more and just takes it in its stride.last updated my norton antivirus defs just for fun, not out of need(and yes i know that if the mac was the dominant platform then more virus writers would target it).
Timley reminder of how mac OSX just works:
PC at work is having the usual security authentication issues with AD.Try and connect to the W2003 server.oh no !! suddenly my credentials are fecked.The mac...just logs on, retrives the file and emails it via exchange to the pc. Thank you Apple !!
Got tons of other examples but as i said earlier, just my 2 pence worth, not five quids worth

Yep OS X is a great OS, I use it a home and Win2K at work, XP offers me very little in the way of must-have features so no point upgrading. I will always have a PC because the best (and way more productive) development tools only exist on the PC (feel free to challenge me and prove me wrong!), OS X dev tools like xcode and interface builder are antiquated as is code warrior there are no RAD tools on either OS X or Linux (with the exception of Kylix) that let you build interfaces visually and quickly and easily hook events and code to those interfaces, but hey tell me otherwise!

Definitely.. the problem is that people think configuring reliable boxes is just about running setup. (or even booting from a cd these days.. non of this winnt /b or -ox etc..) Its about deciding what its going to do.. choosing proper hardware and proper configuration..

I've never had one of my servers BSOD without it being a fault of my own.. (touch woood) most have stupidly good uptime and excellent performance.. but thats because Im good at my job and believe in configuring a server to do what its supposed to do, not run smtp, nntp, http, certificate services, fancy screensavers etc.. that developers believe they need on a box.

Big Plug for HP and IBM x330 / 335 etc servers personally.. Dell dont make servers.. utter crap they are!

I never let our I.T. chaps near my machines if I can help it. I've got them configured properly and don't want anyone mucking them up ;)

Whereas in testing our xp build (about to "upgrade" from nt4) we managed to lock it down so much some of the programmers went mental. Probably because they couldn't do stuff they used to be able to on the network that they should not have been doing in the first place :)

Honestly never had any problems with xp, keep it patched and seems ok. I also still use I.E, no qualms there tbh it does what I want it to which is browse web pages.

I do like the fell of MAC os and if I had cash/room, and the need for another machien I'd have one. Altough I seriously want one of those sexy powerbooks.
