chrome 10 September 2004 07:14 AM

but how do they feel?

Wonder Wagon 10 September 2004 10:20 AM

Apparently Eibach springs take 1 or 2 weeks to settle :)

cw42 10 September 2004 02:41 PM

chrome it feels like I'm in a tarmac prepared wrc car :)
Lots of bumping from our crap roads, but not so harsh that its uncomfortable. Feels really solid in the corners. Once I've got my geometry done, should be very quick and planted round bends :)
Film up tonight hopefully, watch this space :)

FILM

4.73MB in size. First shot is BEFORE, SECOND, AFTER FITTING, 3rd shot is BEFORE, 4th AFTER FITTING :)

After looking quite closely at it, it seems to me that before the new springs and shocks, the movement of the wheels isn't that good, but the car seems to move a lot more.
After fitting, the wheels move a lot more, and a lot quicker up and down, but the car seems more stable on the road.

Settings of the shocks was #3 front, #5 rear, so quite hard.

I'll post some pictures of the shocks at a later date, as it's raining here, and dont fancy getting under the car just yet :)

chris.

Barnesy 10 September 2004 04:26 PM

Was there any difference when you changed the settings??

cw42 10 September 2004 06:08 PM

very big difference barnesy. well hard now, and like I said, will save the full hard for the track in october, you can have a go then if you like ;)
chris.

Anthony's_Scooby 10 September 2004 06:37 PM

I didnt thought they were adjustable in height but needed to check. The 30mm eibach give will be enough.

Nice video.

One last question have you tried the softer settings? and how does it handle those dreaded pot holes, raised drains and general abrupt changes in road levels (ie poorly replaced tarmac).

Sorry to keep asking questions I just need to be sure im spending the money on something thats an improvement.

I have reasonable suspension now its just very harsh when it hits a change in road level drain/pot hole etc..

Many Thanks Anthony.

cw42 10 September 2004 06:44 PM

Not tried the softer settings yet anthony, maybe have a play on monday. I'll let you know.
As for road tracking, although its obviously a harder ride, its not tramlining, or crashing over bumps and potholes harshly. I've been over a few speed bumps since fitting, and found them very smooth, I thought I would crash over them! :(
So far, with the 90+ miles I've done so far I am well happy. I'll have more time to play with settings next week, so I'll keep posting my findings on here as I go along.

chris.

Barnesy 10 September 2004 07:12 PM

Might have some myself :D

chris.

Barnesy 10 September 2004 08:31 PM

I'll have a ride out with you one night, I need to get some strut braces and f droplinks, I only have eibachs and r droplinks.

cw42 11 September 2004 08:06 PM

Top mount adjuster under the bonnet:

Side adjuster, rear shocks (bugger to get to!)
http://www.wilkinson42.btinternet.co...t_adjuster.jpg

Tried them on 1 soft front and 2 soft rear yesterday. Bit spongy, but quite comfortable at speed, probably best setting for motorway cruising.
Back to 2 front and 4 rear now, which seems ideal for general driving.

chrome 12 September 2004 11:00 AM

good info and shots!

Huxley 12 September 2004 01:26 PM

Looking good

I wonder why they only have 4 settings front and 8 rear???

Nearly up to the ammount we need for the group buy on the dampers just need a few more for the Eibachs springs

chrome 16 September 2004 11:00 PM

so anymore info to add chris?

cant get mine fitted until the 30th- boo! ;)

cw42 17 September 2004 05:28 AM

nothing to add really chrome. there still working :)
geometry next wednesday, so everything will be in place then: tyres, suspension, geometry. Got myself booked in for some advanced road driving lessons soon too, with an ex-rally driving instructor! should be fun :)
I've got the shocks on 2 front and 4 rear now, which is harder than stock settings, but very easy to live with. 3 front and 6 rear was a bit harsh for everyday stuff :(
chris.

Barnesy 17 September 2004 02:14 PM

Just ordered mine Chris:D:D:D
Could do with some advance driving lessons myself.
Stu

cw42 23 September 2004 05:21 AM

well, geometry reset yesterday @ prosport in stockport. Excellent service as usual, with the car handed back to me valeted inside and out.
took her out for a little spin along my favourtie road, suspension still on 2 front/4 rear, which is 15% stiffer than stock (I think!). First impressions were obviously much sharper turn in, but also felt more stable on the road. Conditions were attrocious, very wet slippy roads, but still kept up a good pace into, through and out of corners. Hit one very slippy long right hander, with a recovery truck and wrecked car on the left hand side, felt a little understeer, but very easy to get back on line, and pull it straight. Very communicative! (sp)
I'll let you know in more detail after this weekend in wales, hopefully the weather will improve a little, and I can get some dry runs in.

chris.

willy 23 September 2004 09:40 AM

Whats that all about with the recovery truck and wrecking your left hand side?

Willy

cw42 23 September 2004 03:59 PM

Not my left hand side you muppet :), there was a car that had crashed, on the same slippery patch that I understeered a little!
See you soon willy, your going to miss a cracking weekend you know? :)
chris.

willy 23 September 2004 04:20 PM

LOL... I see what you mean now...oops..
I know... take plenty of pics and vids.

Are we out soon on wed(1st run of the month)?

Willy

cw42 23 September 2004 04:34 PM

got the batteries on charge as we speak :)
Not going to make any weds night runs for a while, on lates till beginning of november. I'll have to post up for a few sunday evening runs :)
see you soon m8,
chris.

cw42 25 September 2004 08:18 AM

Off to wales today, shocks set 3 front, 6 rear, nice and stiff. Gotta try to keep up with steelx's WR1!
Andy_s had a bit of a tank slapper on long hill last night, bloke answering mobile phone strayed into his lane, and andy had to take avoiding action. Think he may be driving a bit slower today!! :)
Supertouring is leading the way, so will be a nice sedate pace :)
Full report and hopefully some pictures of my car through the twisties early next week.
chris.

cw42 26 September 2004 08:47 PM

Well, what can I say but: GET EM, FIT EM AND ENJOY! :):)
Great bit of kit, should have done it ages ago. I can keep up with steelx's WR1 now! Only pulls ahead when he goes over a ton!
Just to put that into context, I've got 275bhp/330lbft torque, WR1 has about 310 of each I think (I'm sure someone on here will know exactly) and there was nothing in it around the twisties :)
I'll post some standing start acceleration run film when I've sorted it this week, but until then, you'll have to take my word for it.
I had my suspension on 3 front, 6 rear all weekend, very stiff, very progressive feel through the thousands of tight and twisty corners of North Wales this weekend. Write up here
Suspension was faultless, car grips like a limpet mine now, real confidence into tight wet corners, holds the road across some big jumps. Feels so "right".
Highly reccommended obviously :)
chris.

highlander 07 October 2004 08:49 PM

I've been running mine for a year now and I just love it! I also have Whiteline front droplinks, Powerflex Rear droplinks and Powerflex bushes everywhere on the car. Its so good on my MY93 WRX that I am tempted to get rid of the stock suspension on my STi5 Type R and fit the KYB AGX dampers with the Eibachs.

chrome 07 October 2004 09:32 PM

just had mine done  :D WOW
running 2 on front, 4 on back- full droplinks, 24mm ARB, Eibach springs, ALK, Bumpsteer mod, VERY pleased ;)

Anthony's_Scooby 07 October 2004 11:42 PM

Chris (CW42)

Can you tell me if you have changed any other suspension parts or is it just the KYB AGX dampers with Eibachs?

Im having mine fitted Saturday (inc bumpsteer and full geometry) and not sure whether to have the ALK, ARB, and Droplinks done at the same time?

Any comments please.

Anthony
