TBH - I don't think there's a obvious choice, not keen on Clive Owen.

That's the guy, he was great in Chopper too:) He seems quite a  dude.

In the interests of PC bollox though, I reckon the next Bond should be welsh though, we've had a jock, a paddy, two pommies and an aussie, give the leek suckers a chance I say;) How about Rhys Ifans, the ginga from Notting Hill:D

I was thinking Christian Bale myself actually. Clive Owen would be a good choice too.

Senior_AP - what was the deal with Dalton then? I thought he was a good bond, but then I thought the other "substitute Bond" was good too - George Lazenby (sp?)

/edit re: the Bourne Indentity, is it me or does Mat Damon look a bit young to be a top no-nonsense spy?

Dalton was an excellent Bond. He only did 1 true Bond Film though as "License To Kill" was a bit different, even though on its own merit was a good film. People knock him cos he only did 2 films but if the legal wranglings hadn't halted the films he would have done some more. He was excellent as Bond. Lazenby was ok but apparently was a **** in real life and people refused to work with him again!!!

Clive Owen gets my vote too. I have a DVD of those BMW Films and he seems to be basically auditioning for the part in those.. I read in the Telegraph at the weekend that Tarantino wants to remake Casino Royale (the 1st Bond book, only filmed until now as a spoof with David Niven, Peter Sellers, Woody Allen et al in the 60's), with Brosnan playing Bond. He's also said he wants to set it in the 60's too, which IMO would be cool. Still think Owen would be better than Brosnan though.. Owen would play it darker I think, much closer to Fleming's books (you should read them all BTW, they're the nuts!)

Thats why I liked Dalton as Bond. They gave him the nickname of the Wolf, piercing green eyes. Good looking bloke but the sort you knoiw would kick the foooock out of you if you pissed him off.

I think Pauly Shore should be the next James Bond. :)

andypugh2000 16 August 2004 12:42 PM

What about Robbie williams, looks the part :D can imagine it now at the film premiere, easy to park as all his fans would be under 17 years old :D ;)

But can he act though?? :D I personally think he would be the next best James Bond ;)

Deffo Clive Owen - he is as cool as fcuk in those BMW films as The Driver, and the pitcure of him from Croupier with the DJ on is practically a still form a Bond movie!

I can see the Bond series turning into total crap pretty soon - political correctness will be forced upon it, so we'll end up with an ethnic bond and some disabled bond girls..

I read somewhere about them on about going back to having set in the 50's or something - that could be pretty quality IMO - however with the amount of money they make from product placement in them now I dont see that ever happening.

Regacy 16 August 2004 02:13 PM

What about a woman?
No really what about a female Bond?

RoShamBo 16 August 2004 03:09 PM

There is a girl here at work who's brother - James Purefoy - got down to the last few to play Bond before Brosnan got the job .....put James Purefoy Bond into google & click on the first result.

He was in A Knights Tale & Resident Evil recently & a few other things.

He is apparantly in the running to play bond when Brosnan quits & will not reveal who the others in the running are, though one of them is deffo Clive Owen.

You're itching for me to say what we both know I will say. You're fishing for an argument that is guaranteed to end up getting silly.

You know what I think on this and vice versa. I respect your opinion.

TelBoy 16 August 2004 04:46 PM

Ok. Calling them weirdos just catches my attention though, that's all.

Fair enough...

No point debating though is there?? We won't agree, so its just prompting unnecessary attitude - more than likely from a whole host of people, so they all get annoyed to. I'm not going to set out to provoke an argument about such silly topics.
