Its a personal thing at the end of the day,but i find Tags rather tacky, and would never pay over £250 for a quartz watch anyway.

yoza 12 August 2004 05:08 PM

Lets just say it gives my left hook that extra 'bang'.

It should be advertised as a divers watch, you wouldnt have to wear all those weights to make you sink to the bottom, just follow your wrist.....:)

corradoboy 12 August 2004 05:10 PM

Is that Tag a quartz movement ? If so, it would be a no-go for me. I wouldn't pay anything over £100 for a quartz watch. If you're getting into the £1.5k region it simply must be a hand made mechanical movement. For me it's like the difference between a Ferrari and a Corsa. They both take you from A to B, are both capable of breaking every speed limit in the land and are fundamentally exactly the same product, except the Corsa will be more reliable (like a quartz watch). But if you're spending £100k+ you want to know that it's been lovingly hand assembled by craftsmen with pride and passion, not mass produced by robots to a miniscule cost.

Oh, and I just had a quick look on the Argos site. There's quite a few Pulsar/Accurist/Sekonda etc with the mixed analogue/digital face for under £100 ;)

yoza 12 August 2004 05:15 PM

100k+

Fookin ell, you will get a lot of watch for that.

Yeah - 'fraid so... The whole idea is that the additional chrono functions are hidden until needed.

Ta for looking at Argos for me Dave. Is that your impression of me? You'll be suggesting that my dayglo socks came from the closing down sale at C&A next...:D

Incidentally, I've already got a few cheaper/mid-priced quartz jobbies anyway...;)

A lot of watches.... I'd hope.... Maybe even Big Ben, and that tacky mechanical movement old house that it's stored in.....

corradoboy 12 August 2004 05:37 PM

Chris, this is more my impression of you

Theres loads of fake omegas now, some pretty good. Brands been devalued imo now :( Sold both my modern moonwatches (standard and snoopy limited edition) and just kept my pre-moon (1966) speedmaster.

One of my favourites. 1999 Chopard Mille Miglia. Made to comemorate the resumption of the classic Italian road race after a lengthy absence following many deaths. The strap replicates the Dunlop tread pattern of the 50's cars and the dial emulate the dash of the successful Alfa Romeo cars. If you can find one, it might just fall into your price bracket. If you like it that is.

It's an AUTOMATIC which means it winds itself with a pendulous weight.

Right - I've heard of devices like that....:D:D:D

yoza 12 August 2004 08:33 PM

With a spare grand in my pocket, I would buy one of these...actually I wouldnt because she has put a ban on watch buying, but you know what I mean.:)

Ebay Item Numbers:_

4917198843 or 4917588844

Both brilliant in different ways, but both A1 condition and authentic.

The vintage one is a jem, a work of art. The professional SuperOcean a engineering masterpiece.......

Hellium release valve and waterPROOF to 5000ft/1524M, thats watch engineering for you.

Hmmm, part exchange he says.......:D

corradoboy 12 August 2004 08:42 PM

Do you regularly go more than 1 mile below the sea

yoza 12 August 2004 08:44 PM

Thats not the point you baffoon.

I dont often travel in my car @150mph+ but if I want to, I can.

Blimey.....;):D:D:D

corradoboy 13 August 2004 12:09 PM

I believe the 1st is more applicable, my buffoonery is mostly benign, mostly :D

So, where are we up to with the watch discussion ?

I think we left it that I liked the Kirium F1, but no one else did....:)

More chav tat for me then, I guess.:D:D:D

yoza 13 August 2004 12:13 PM

I think we have decided that the Tag is too expensive.(Or at lease I have)

The ChaseDurer is too big.:)

And Poljot are excellent, but too cheap

How Harry feels, we dont know, is he or isnt he going ahead with his purchase ?

corradoboy 13 August 2004 12:14 PM

I couldn't tempt you with the Chopard then :( Go on, go find one and have a look. Its beauty and mechanical precision will win you over. And remember, you might not want to drive the Mille Miglia, but with that watch on your wrist you know you COULD :D:D:D

yoza 13 August 2004 12:20 PM

Found one.......look at the price FFS.

Strangely enough, I just might give that a miss Yoza.....:)

Anyway Dave - is the 'mechanical precision' you're talking about similar to running a Morris Minor with a carb and distributor????:D

corradoboy 13 August 2004 12:27 PM

I've seen them as low as $1750. When you consider the E/R at the mo' it makes for a good price. Of course, Import Thievery and Value Added Thievery add to that, but it would be cheaper to have a cheap flight week in the US and simply wear it back on the plane ;) That one that belonged to Elton would make one serious investment I think. He ain't getting any younger and when he pops it it will probably become more collectable. Ask Steve Chaps opinion on celebrity collectable values.

Fair point, but I couldn't bring myself to wear it.... After all, it MIGHT have been on his wrist. And there's no telling what activities it might have endured....:(

JimmyRB5PRO 13 August 2004 12:44 PM

why dont u .....

see if you can get one of teh Ltd edition 007 Omega speedmasters - thet ar very simular to the normal one - but automatic and have 007 on the lbue face instead of the seamaster waves and a ltd box and all the usual ltd edition stuff someone will find a pic of one, they retailed at about £1500 and are a lot less common that tags etc ....................just a thought.

oh did i mention i might have one for sale if you want it only worn about 3 times ..........lol..

Nat 13 August 2004 12:58 PM

The 007 seamasters are nice but the market is flooded with repro's of it :( Same as the snoopy speedmasters. Quite rare in themeslves but thousands more bloody fakes around that are a very good match, ruined the watch for me.
