"I think therefore I am" the cause and effect elements of life & death related to humans, are all in this statement.

juan 15 April 2004 12:38 PM

Religion is the root of more human suffering, intolerance, death and war than anything else on the planet. Life after death only really crops up as a relgious option. Created by humans and all codswallop in my humble opinion.

:)

Its illogical captain

How crowded would it be if there was a place all souls went to
That is possibly the most 3-dimensional thinking I've ever read. You relate any possible after life to your understanding of the dynamics of the universe you live in. By your own admission we are a puny species that probably can't comprehend even a small percentage of the universe in which we live. Is is so hard to believe therefore that if there is an after life it won't be based in a 3 dimensional (x,y,z axis) universe and that crowding will not therefore be an issue :D Moreover, it is again so hard to believe that such a place would have no time axis either such that it has no beginning, middle or end.....

SiPie 15 April 2004 01:19 PM

I feel stoned just reading that reply ;)

man ;)

LG John 15 April 2004 01:27 PM

MarvSTi5 15 April 2004 01:34 PM

They probably have congestion charging up there to solve the overcrowding issue :D

Death = end of brain function = organism ceases to function

Simple. No after life, no re-incarnation, no long tunnel with a bright light, and certainly no omnipotent deity of any description.

Live for today because next week you may be rotting in the ground somewhere.

Were you "Mr C" in a previous life? ;)

Human history represents such a radical break with the natural
systems of biological organization that preceded it, that it must
be the response to a kind of attractor, or dwell point that lies
ahead in the temporal dimension. Persistently Western religions
have integrated into their theologies the notion of a kind of end
of the world, and I think that a lot of psychedelic
experimentation sort of confirms this intuition, I mean, it isn't
going to happen according to any of the scenarios of orthodox
religion, but the basic intuition, that the universe seeks
closure in a kind of omega point of transcendance, is confirmed,
it's almost as though this object in hyperspace, glittering in
hyperspace, throws off reflections of itself, which actually
ricochet into the past, illuminating this mystic, inspiring that
saint or visionary, and that out of these fragmentary glimpses of
eternity we can build a kind of map, of not only the past of the
universe, and the evolutionary egression into novelty, but a kind
of map of the future...

yes.

though not to most of your question which could be valid. just to this bit:

Is is so hard to believe that there is an after life

just my personal view. :) bagsy next on that bifta

LG John 15 April 2004 02:35 PM

Now, now Juan - you've misquoted me! I said "Is is so hard to believe therefore that if there is an after life "

I don't know what I think regarding an after life but I do know that if one exist it might not conform to our current understanding of physics.

Bubba po 15 April 2004 02:36 PM

It's not possible to define a point when something became "alive". The first self-replicating molecules came into existence and everything else since has been incrementally more complex levels of organisation based upon the activity of replication.

By alive do you mean "conscious"? -Because there are lots of living things that don't have that quality.

TelBoy 15 April 2004 02:38 PM

Most of them in Muppets....

This is true. I do apologise. I was going to say I struggle with hypotheticals but then realised that thats what all these 'who would you rather **** - Kylie or Pammy?' type questions are and I don't struggle with those.

Pammy everytime ;)

So in that case I would have to answer no. But I still don't believe there is anything there, at all.

LG John 15 April 2004 03:04 PM

Easy, kylie :D

Brit_in_Japan 15 April 2004 03:09 PM

Is there life after death ?
No, I don't think so, not in reincarnation or some sort of heaven/hell/valhalla/Kubla Kahn way.

But in one way perhaps we do live on after our deaths. The way we have behaved, the deeds we have done, the way others think of us. We affect the lives of others. If you have ever been inspired by others then maybe a little bit of them lives on in your accomplishments. Similarly there are many screwed up people in this world because of the abuse they have suffered.

Chaos, where has all this come from ?

Perhaps someone could volunteer to top themselves and make contact ?

Where NACRO go when its all 'ROVER', after all he did say he likes to Fcuk a dog, I find the bucket of water at the end is so refreshing.

NACRO 16 April 2004 07:11 AM

I said "fcuk like a dog" not "fcuk a dog"- as that's the way you misread it I presume that's what you do j4cko, every time you're in bed with your ugly mother/wife/girlfriend/boyfriend etc

:D

Leslie 16 April 2004 12:05 PM

I think Telboy's first post was very good and covered the whole thing very well. Yes I don't think you meant to denigrate the whole human race Nacro, but it did sound like it though.

Younger people see everything in black and white while older people with much wider experience of life find that their thinking becomes more modified in that respect.

The only thing to say I think is that if you truly follow your conscience and live according to natural law in the way you behave towards others, that is the best you can do.

You have to believe what you honestly think and act accordingly.
