Should I be able to do donuts in MY03 WRX? (334BHP)

TopBanana 18 October 2006 08:18 AM

:Suspiciou

[MikeyB] 18 October 2006 08:57 AM

I mean without the DCCD?

P20SPD 18 October 2006 09:36 AM

You will, but you risk frigging your centre diff

[MikeyB] 18 October 2006 09:38 AM

I'll stay well away from the donuts then...

Neanderthal 18 October 2006 09:57 AM

Just do it on wet grass, you'll be fine (as long as you don't do it for too long!)

P20SPD 18 October 2006 10:09 AM

Dont do it on wet grass, as again it will put undue stress on the centre diff, dependant on how much you do.

David_Wallis 18 October 2006 11:47 AM

wet grass would be better than tarmac..

A Handbrake turn is the best way of getting it going without a dccd imho.

David

[MikeyB] 18 October 2006 11:57 AM

How easy (if at all possible) is it to fit a DCCD? And what costs would I be looking at?

P20SPD 18 October 2006 12:09 PM

Not cheap

[MikeyB] 18 October 2006 12:19 PM

Not cheap, £100, £1000, £10,000?

P20SPD 18 October 2006 01:11 PM

You would need to find the transfer case from a DCCD box, which includes the DCCD and the transfer gears. OR You find a working DCCD box. You will be lucky if you can find either for less than £500.

Once you have done that, you will then need to change the rear diff to a 3.9 rear diff. Several options here, cheapest probably £100, Sport rear diff, but again very difficult to find. Other options tend to be double/tripple this.

Then you will need to find a controller for the DCCD, again £100 plus, if you can find one.

Then there is labour on top of that, again a few hundred quid.

So not massively expensive, its still not cheap IMO.
