He seemed pretty with it to be honest. No drugs or drink.

I got the impression that he had perhaps seen an oppertunity when he clocked the car and me on my own. He may of been legit but if he was he played it very wrong.

I prob won't know anyone from Firrhill that you know.....I am 32, and IIRC, you are but a youngster.......

I decamped to another establishment down the road after a while anyway - one of these schools they rob cash off your folks for..... :-)

imlach 04 October 2003 11:06 PM

btw, wee tip SB - get off the online poker, and start spread betting on the financial markets!! Many more gains to be made.......

LG John 04 October 2003 11:12 PM

I don't think she stuck with it but I'm not sure. I ran into her in Eros one night (before it got shut down ) and at that time she was still doing a lot of shifts at Scotmid. Thats actually quite funny because she got my old part time job from when I was 17. I 'lost' (:D) it because some local neds came in to buy some beers whilst there mates leaned against my mums car outside grinning at me. I figured it was in my interest (i was young ) to quickly run the beer through rather than have them key the car.

I got busted and I got shown the door. The funny thing is I could have dug my heels in because they put me on the booze and fags counter when I was 17 which they are not allowed to do. I couldn't be bothered with the job anyway so sort agreed to leave under the conditions. Kelly got my job a week later and was still there last time I saw her!

imlach, any help on that would be appreciated. Feel free to email me :)

Well, I'd need to know your current gain/loss ratio, and how much you are prepared to risk.......

For instance, yesterday, I placed a bet on the DOW closing below 100 points down - when I placed the bet, my max potential loss was £30.

The DOW quickly fell, and I "won" £270 - plus my £30 stake back.

My workmate and I have been trying this scheme for the last week - it has worked 3 out of 5 times this week, but this was a 'lucky' week. We did analysis on it at work, and figured that 9 out of 20 of the last days were potentially winners.

How does that compare to this online poker thing?

Kane 04 October 2003 11:19 PM

Yep dodgy - would have told him to poke off. If his wife was in labour he wouldn't have Been there.- he's interested in the car.I eckon just out to do you over once in the car out in the open road.

Good decision and never forget once they are in the car and dont want to leave - you have a problem.

Didnt your mum/dad tell you about picking up strange men at night....count yourself very, very lucky.

LG John 04 October 2003 11:22 PM

Me and my mates have only been playing online poker for a wee while. Its not been going to well yet whilst I settle into the way things are played. How does what you do work? Do you do it all online, etc? What sites, etc?

Shame it wasn't a tidy blonde that wanted a lift ;):D

imlach 04 October 2003 11:23 PM

Might be worth giving the cops at the station next to Tesco a quick call - you never know, someone else may have been taken in by his chat, and is currently "car-less" - who knows!

Could you give a description etc? Prob worthwhile IMHO.

If Costorphine copshop shut, you'll get put through to Fettes automatically.....

imlach 04 October 2003 11:24 PM

spread betting site I use

Bubba po 04 October 2003 11:25 PM

Never give lifts to strangers :)

I gave some girl a lift once, as she flagged me down on a motorway island

I asked how come she needed a lift, and she told me her boyfriend had thrown her out of the car on the hard shoulder on the motorway

I asked why, and her reply 'I tried to stab him with some scissors'

Needless to say she got dropped off at the first available stopping point

imlach 04 October 2003 11:27 PM

> Shame it wasn't a tidy blonde that needed a lift

...and what would stop a lady showing you a bit of leg and making off with your car!!! Been done before :-)

LG John 04 October 2003 11:28 PM

'I tried to stab him with some scissors'
LMAO :D What can you say, 'er, oooooooooooooo kay'

Pyrocam999 05 October 2003 02:27 AM

A panner ! Word of caution....never give a lift to a panner. Speaking from past experience, oh and also I used to go to school in the pans, not something i'm proud of. :(

mikeDaBike 05 October 2003 09:02 AM

Bollocks to that - suspect as f*ck!

If somebody's wife is labour they'd get a cab or get a mate to give them a lift. If his wife was really in labour what was he doing miles away with no means to get back anyway?

I think it's a shame nobody hitches these days, coz at one stage in my life it was my main form of transport, but the only people I pick up these days are those who look dead safe (picked up a couple of Slovakian students off to pick fruit north of Glasgow) and the guys with trade plates (of course, these could be fake I guess).

A mate of mine recently hitched to Glasgow and had a nightmare getting lifts. Eventually the police had a chat to him and said "the only people who hitch these days are on the run", which is probably a bit over the top but worth bearing in mind.

I rekon his motive was to hold you at knife point, steal your car then eat your chicken.

You did the right thing! :)

MM

Leslie 05 October 2003 11:38 AM

You made the right move alright, and even tidy blondes can cause a great deal of trouble!

He'd have to kill me before he'd get my sweet and sour :D

imlach 05 October 2003 02:43 PM

SB - don't think related, but does the description of the guy here sound like your man last night???

imlach 05 October 2003 02:44 PM

...just to follow up on that BBC news story - was the pizza delivery man delivering a pizza from Cumbria to Edinburgh???????????????

Luke 05 October 2003 06:10 PM

Probably just fancied you..... Do you look gay????

Scooby_Loo 05 October 2003 06:27 PM

OMG! You were in Eros!.....

LG John 05 October 2003 06:36 PM

I know, I know! It was one of these nights where I was out voted :( The incidents seem unrelated - shame for the pizza dude and even more so for the hungary customers!
