cheers boys a puma is sorely tempting is it worth buying the racing one or is their little difference?
|
Show me a racing Puma for 6K
In fact, show me a racing Puma :D |
You need to look at what maximum group your willing to pay, i.e get some quotes, and what type of performance and size of vehicle you want.
Personally, ror a really cheap fun rounaround you can't go too far wrong with cars like a 106 1.3 Rallye or AX GT, which is what I aimed for at that age (I had an AX Gti and Mk2 golf Gti 8v) Anyway, here's a list, in order, of all the cars that Autocar mentioned last year, you make up your mind if you think the insurance is too high (their price exmaples were too low if you ask me!) UNDER 2.5K (CHEAPIES !!) VW Golf Gti 16v Mk2 Pug 205 Gti 1.9 Toyota MR2 Mk1 Carlton GSi 24v Renault 21 Turbo Pug 406 Mi16 Laguna V6 (94) Alfa 145 Cloverleaf Jag XJS V12 (!) AX GT CRX VTEC Alfa 164 3.0V6 Astra GTE 16v Sunny GTi Audi 80 Sport 16v Saab 900 Turbo SE Polo G40 Mazda 323 4x4 turbo Rover 220 Turbo Toyota Corola UP TO 6K 300ZX twin Turbo BMW E30 M3 Pug 106 Gti Renault Clio Willaims Pug 306 Gti-6 Celica Gt4 Renault GTA Seirra/Sapph Cossie Audi Quattro Saxo VTS MR2 Gt Mk2 Pulsar Gti-R MX5 RX7 (mk1) Calibra Turbo Merc 190 2.5-16 Hyundai Coupe 2.0 Almera Gti Volvo T5 Proton Satria Gti Obviously many are above you insurance, but you get the idea. |
cheers mate very helpful il see about quotes!
|
what about a saxo VTR? not stupidly quick but not slow, grp 7 insurance and highly entertaining to drive! only downside is everyone and his dog has one.
also consider 2.0 xsi pug, i take it we are talking warm hatches rather than hot? |

well looks like a choice between a 306 gti6, a starlet galanza possibly a VTS (bit to common though) any other suggestions?

Matey,
Take a look at the Honda Civic VTI's, 160/170+ bhp, VTEC howl, reasonable running costs, bullet proof mechanicals. REV to over 8000 RPM, can be modded .....remember the Fast & Furious ...? about a group 15 insurance though, but an excellent all round car. |
well civic vti sounds good aswell now. il keep it in mind!
|
I saw a racing puma for £11k, but I'm sure you could get one cheaper. Weren't they prepared by prodrive, or am I wrong?
|
What about a Punto GT???... my brother is 20 years old and has just bought one, low milage(16k) and fsh all for £4000.... his insurance with 2yncb was £1050 after over a week of phoning around.
Pretty quick but need modding a little if ya wanna keep up with the big boys (anything with 2.0litre engine) but will be great in a straight line against numerous gti's |
Racing Pumas were made by Tickford. Ford lost money on every one sold.
Steve |
Get an R32 Skyline, the gts4 is a 2.0 4wd turbo and they came in 2 doors and are only group 18 insurance. I've seen a good un for less than you ave to spend as well.
|
Dont buy something with a view to modding it ....A/ insurance will cripple you .....B/ It will de-value it if you intend to sell it on in a year or so.
A safe bet would be a golf GTi ...low depreciation at that price Puma would be good, even if it does look like a pregnant skateboard Saxo VTR for low insurance. OR ........ TVR S or 400SE. haha |
Cars for up to 6K includes a BMW E30 M3??????
I haven't seen one for that price for two years leave alone decent one and I am in Germany! |
well im in a job where i earn enough that i wont realy be bothered about losing a bit of money!!
|
out of that lot it has to be the 306 GTI-6
|
8000rpm and bombproof sounds to good. know to many boys with 306 gti 6's!! their not all there made out to be!!
|
As far as I know, not a great deal. The S16 has same engine but a 5 speed box instead of the 6 speed of the gti-6. Tends to be a bit cheaper as well :) The S16 was the precursor to the gti-6.
There's probably more to it than that :D Some previous questions have been asked here : http://groups.google.co.uk/groups?q=...UTF-8&oe=UTF-8 [Edited by Hanslow - 9/12/2003 9:17:24 PM] |
