Fair enough fatherpierre I can't actually claim to have driven a Type R. Thought about one when I got the Scoob though.
Just trying to get across what a capable little motor the Zetec S is. Especially as you can get a W plaTe for around 4k now and the insurance is peanuts.
They are just so driveable on the twisties and especially in the wet.
As you can tell I am a fan :-)
By the way I am not stupid enough to think a Zetec S would stand a chance on a sweeping a-road!

Really, there would not be a cat in hell's chance of a fiesta keeping up with a well driven Teg, I have one and know what these cars are capable of, in fact on your mentioned B-roads, put most cars against it inclufing Scoobies and it really would come down to the driver.

I agree, they're surprising little cars. I was taken aback by their 40-80 acceleration when I borrowed my mates for a few days (thrashed the arse of it!).

Too bouncy on the handling front, for my liking. A teg, though handles like a dream. Try one, you'll love it.

A Yaris T Sport can pee all over a Festa Z-S, they are slow as a normal boggo family saloon :p

aroadwarrior - I'm also a fan of the Fiesta, but the 'teg is in a different league (it is, thats not meant to be an insult).

Yes a bit bouncy I agree. Don't know about Yaris, tried to drive one once but kept falling over laughing at the shape of it so had to decline :-)

This is the bit that gets me :confused: The Zetec S may handle quite well but so the 306! With the extra power I recond the 306 would leave it no problem!

The 306 would destroy it, fast and still one of the best handling hot hatches made in recent years. The Fiesta is a luke warm hatch, nothing more.

For crying out loud! All the VTR boys argue about whats faster between their car and an S. There is a whole band of hot-hatches above the VTR and Zetec-S, i.e. VTS, 106 GTI, 306 GTI/Rallye, Mini Cooper S, Clio 172, etc, etc. Sorry but the S doesn't play the same sport as the 306 Rallye.

how would the mk1 CTR handle (ek9)??? heard there really hard to find but i've found one on sale in the autotrader, whats the specs of this car and how does it handle on the twisties?

I take it the zetec-S comments are a bit of trolling/a joke. I say this as I have use of my father's girlfriends Zetec S every time I go back to England (saves hiring a car). While it does have good handling and is very, very good fun to drive, it does not have the roadholding and grip to put in the 'A' league along with an Integra Type R.
The Integra would massacre it- simple as that. This is based on around 5K miles in the Fiesta and a run in along the B roads of Lancashire with my friend in his Integra. He left me for dead and we are pretty equal on the track given similar vehicles.

I think what you will find is that in the "real" world means not balls out straight line performance. I owned a Zetec S for a year and did 30k in it. I admit it needed more power, hence I bought a Rallye and did 30k in that in a year. I still feel that I would beat myself (if I could drive two cars at once!!) in the Zetec S over the Rallye ON THE RIGHT ROAD. Obviously a Type R would slaughter one on anything with a lot of straights, as would the Rallye. My final words : Zetec S, great nippy little car with awesome handling and cheap insurance. 306 Rallye, great car, very quick, very good on the twisties, AWESOME brakes, but fell apart in one year!
P.s. After all your comments I am definately going to try an Integra Type R sometime soon!

I drove a 160k miler and it was pretty awesome on the handling front.

Power was ok but could have done with a bit more.

200sx good choice. A mate has an S13, S14's are cool.
ScoobyJawa - get into the countryside and drive some proper roads, maybe you will realise that out and out power is not all you need.

I've driven every type of road you dare to throw at me. I've had a 205gti, 306GTi-6, scoob, supra on its way, and the fiesta s is utterly outclassed - guy at work has one which I've had a go in, and had a play with a few in the 205 (13 years old and still outclasses it too).

I'm not saying its a bad car, its not, the handling ain't bad, engine is pretty poor, needs soooo much more grunt - but its not in the same league as what you're trying to compare it too. It would be like comparing a Teg with a 911.

fords aren't exactly the best manufacturers of performance cars are they? in my eyes to be honest the only ford cars which i have liked are: the mustang range, cosworth, rs (excluding the rs focus) and the gt's. those are pretty much the only (ford) performance cars which have done them any justice.

fiesta's aren't really the cars you could see travelling fast and out doing most other cars in twisties and straights?

Having spent a very enjoyable hour in an Accord Type R this afternoon, I know where my vote would go.

Amazing engine (never been in a V-TEC before - wow what a noise :) ). Lacked a little torque, but just a fantastic car - supreme handling. Guy I was with is a decent driver and had it doing some nice powerslides around the roundabouts :)

Also take into account, that this was a company car which has been thouroughly used and abused (this one has been driven extremely hard on a very regular basis for over 80000 miles (I've seen some of his in-car video footage :) )) Very strong engine, this car has only ever had the normal servicing and oil changes and one ot two sets of tyres! Nothing has fallen off and the car still feels very well screwed together.

At this price, it would be very hard to beat.
