Isn't it because one of the pipes is made thin which restricts air flow at higher revs not allowing large bhp figures?

The Audi's 4WD system is biased towards safety not speed.

4WD does give an advantage in the wet in terms of traction, I'm no expert but I imagine it doesn't confer such an advantage in terms of ouright grip however.
