I went for the cheaper option for a bit to sort my finances and found a car in better condition than my Scoob!!! Check the link ;)

If this was me, I'd not look to spend more than a grand at most. As you readily admit its only going to be for 2 months. Look to get something under a grand with full MOT on it. No doubt you'll have to tax it for 6 months, then when you come to sell you have a car with tax and test to move on, buyers at that end of the market are going to like the fact its taxed. If you wanted you can have my smoker off me, Xantia auto, as I'm thinking of selling it as I don't really need it anymore, I'll be looking for £800 and it will have 12mths MOT on it from Friday.

But seriously, if you are serious about avoiding depreciation, don't spend any money in the first place. Yes the auction idea is good, but as you are most likely going to buy something sold as seen, there is potential you could come a cropper, if you fail to spot something prior to buying. Get the local paper and look in the classifieds, you'll spot something for under a grand that will do for a couple of months, remember its not got to pretty, stylish or fast, just cheap and reliable. Think Vauxhall Cavalier or similar, Just make sure you give what you are looking at a thorough once over to make sure nothing is amiss. That's my thoughts on this anyway for what they are worth.
