Only my choice has a proven 180+mph top speed, 400+bhp per tonne and is a genuine Superbike worrier, let alone Supercar slayer :D. No other car mentioned is even in the same county, let alone playing field... ;)
|
Rubbish... the Ford is not a contender... too well known... the only way a Cosworth qualiifies is if the Q stands for Qrap... :D
PMSL... |
Debadge it \ TDI badge, remove all the skirts \ spoilers \ sports alloys, maybe rebuild it all into an estate or 5dr shell, *then* it would be a Q car.
Not seeing you coming is worth a fair few bhp ;) |
Mycroft,
Well come up with a better contender then:p. Your choice has as much chassis control as a Lancia Thema - i.e. ZIP;) Take the badges off and it is just an old Sapphire with some alloy wheels. Ultimate stealth! :D [Edited by Mike Rainbird - 5/22/2003 12:43:56 PM] |
(take the engine out and it's just an old sapphire with some alloy wheels ;))
Seriously tho, nice car, but I think most petrol heads will look to vents in bonnet etc and clock it's a cossie, hence giving it a little space etc. Nice car, not a Q car. [Edited by ianc - 5/22/2003 12:46:27 PM] |
'My choice'... would be /is my Soarer... which still to this day has the stiffest Monocoque ever made... about 5 times stiffer than any Cosworth I might add... chassis is adjustable to needs... the monocoque isn't... except with roll cages and fully welded spars...
|
Always thought a Brabus EV12 has the 'Ultimate Q-car' title. Looks like a normal AMG, even when it's doing over 200mph...
|
Audi RS6
And for anyone who says it's not a Q car, just remember we are all car geeks, to the average 'joe' an RS6 is just a big boring audi estate |
Little Brabus CV8 is a contender, looks like a Sportcoupe so not known for outright pace.
|
MC,
Bet it is a lard a r s e though, so totally pointless in having a stiff chassis... :p 500+bhp + 1275kg = :D Also, isn't a Q-car supposed to blend in? Methinks you don't understand the concept... ;) [Edited by Mike Rainbird - 5/22/2003 1:04:57 PM] |
###
Bet it is a lard a r s e though, so totally pointless in having a stiff chassis... ### You are proving my point... even someone as 'clever and knowledgeable' as you would be caught out by my car... it is great to be proved right all the time... It HAS pulled 12½ sec quarter and HAS done 180mph with just 380hp. |
A 'Q' car is a 'Quiet' car that is where it came from... it means stealth... anything that has a wing is out... anything that has vents and add-ons is out... anything with rice is out... anything that is 'known' is out... known 'Badges' are out... anything 'boy-racerish is out
Q = Quiet = Stealth... My car really 'Q'ualifies... [Edited by Mycroft - 5/22/2003 1:18:38 PM] |
Nah, Q-car comes from cars which were so modified from the norm that they had to be put on a Q-letter number plate.
|
It predates that matey, it comes from the 1930's...
Q = Quiet = stealth The first time it was used was by the Deusenberg Car Co. who have the disticntion of giving the English language 2 such additions... The term ''Wow.. that's a Doozie'' came from their publicity for the 1930 J model... a stunning car years ahead of its time... and the other came from the same model range... The 'standard model J had a loud and 'fruity' exhaust and was very ricey in a 1930s' way... but you could order the same car as a 'Q' model... very discrete... and so the 'Q' car was born... It predates that matey, it comes from the 1930's... Q = Quiet = stealth Or in the case of your Soarer.....Q = Queer :D I'd have to agree with the Audi RS4, saw one the other day and they do look nice, but to the average man on the street they don't really stand out - and they're bloody quick! :) |

Rubbish! Its definately to do with the Q plate thing. ### Your ignorance is showing. [Edited by Mycroft - 5/22/2003 1:33:39 PM] |
Actually, you are all way off the mark.
The description "Q cars" was derived from Q ships (Queen ships) which goes back to the first world war and were heavily armed ships disguised as unarmed merchant vessels. The term "Q" came to mean anything that was disguised in this way and got used for cars too. Read here and learn all about it ;) http://www.history.navy.mil/docs/wwi...#anchor1575052 |
The first time used for cars was the Duesenberg... 'Q' has been used since the 19thC to discribed anything 'discrete'...
[Edited by Mycroft - 5/22/2003 1:42:57 PM] |
Good effort Dave - at least you've proved that Mycroft is talking BS (again!) :D
At least I didn't make up any stories :D |
###
Rubbish! Its definately to do with the Q plate thing. ### hahaha :D:D:D |
it comes from the 1930's... Q = Quiet = stealth I'm quite happy to admit I was wrong - no problem with that at all... (anyway, back on topic......) [Edited by Pepper - 5/22/2003 1:50:40 PM] |
From 'August and Frederick Duesenberg'
Introduction... Extract.. Erret Loban Cord entered the picture in 1926, wanting a sleek, luxurious auto, and the Duesenbergs were just the ones to produce it. The first models delighted customers in 1929; the last model rolled out of the factory in 1937....... The Duesenberg auto was so splendid that Americans labeled anything special or extraordinary a "Duesie" or "doozie."..... The credit for this goes to the famous J and Q models of the twin chassis car of the 30's. It is considered by most Motoring Historians that the term 'Q-car' came from the sales patter given to any visitor to the Duesenberg Factory.... [Edited by Mycroft - 5/22/2003 1:53:28 PM] |
"Once upon a time....."
hahahaha :D:D:D |
Oh and by the way - I'm not convinced that there actually ever was a Duesenberg Model Q - I'm pretty sure that's made up!
|
From knowing nothing 5 minutes ago, you are suddenly an expert... you're a total trumpet... hahaha :D:D:D
Again Pepper you post and you disrupt the thread... you are like an irritating child... 5 or more posts and you have only been rude and talked bolleaux... not one snippet of information have you posted... again. [Edited by Mycroft - 5/22/2003 2:11:59 PM] |
Well if you're constantly going to edit your posts, then I'll edit mine :D
What is on topic is determining the origin of the term "Q-Car" What is off topic is making up stories about the origin of the term "Q-Car" :D I challenge you or anyone else to find any information about a "Duesenberg Model Q".... [Edited by Pepper - 5/22/2003 2:16:01 PM] |
Anyway what I think would be a great q-car would be a BMW 5 series estate with a 400bhp M5 V8 shoved into it. Oh a badge it as a 520 :D
|
Another perfectly good thread ruined...
|
Mycroft
I'm glad to see in your later posts you are now showing the correct spelling of Duesenberg, but if you are going to quote him, please note Cord's name is spelt Errett Lobban Cord :) |
