/tries hard not to mention the 150,000+ miler Calibra Turbo hitting consistent 13.19s 1/4 miles.....

Scooby onwers that dont think much of all Vauxhalls best be prepared to eat humble pie at some point when they eventually meet up with some seriously quick Vauxhall cars.....

Nikko2 08 July 2003 12:22 AM

Just been looking on Courteneys site they do a 225bhp conversion for £500.

Is this just an ECU rewrite? or A piggy back chip? Or something else.

Would it be very noticeable at servicetime?

what would scooby do 08 July 2003 08:45 AM

Vauxhall - the worlds worst car brand - and people still buy them - go to your local Netto's and see that there are more Vauxhalls there than any other make..

"Vauxhall - the worlds worst car brand - and people still buy them - go to your local Netto's and see that there are more Vauxhalls there than any other make"

Get an Opel instead then- doesn't sound quite so bad does it? (and the logo looks better)

John WRX 08 July 2003 10:46 PM

i had one of the first coupe turbos out, it was running 183 bhp and running a quater mile at constant 14.9 (4 consecutive runs) also doing 0-60 in 6.8

Nice car but prefer the scoob :D

timebomb 09 July 2003 04:44 PM

Youve all forgotten!
Astra coupe 888 turbo is the Daddy if you can find one.
They have been reported running at 230-240bhp standard as rolling road tests have proven.

P 1 TUD 09 July 2003 05:18 PM

the 888 was a limited edition with no more power than the standard one. just blue alcantara trim everywhere. and different wheels.

timebomb 09 July 2003 05:24 PM

on paper they had no more power than the standard ones.

But tests have proven different.

i will find the articles i have read.

dave20vt 09 July 2003 11:04 PM

The fiat coupe maybe the odd one out, but in a good way, and i did enjoy humbling that poor little scooby turbo last night with that very long 3rd gear.

thats what i meant :)

RobDon 10 July 2003 02:20 PM

Modern Vauxhalls are well built, much better than many other makes. The GSi and Coupe Astra Turbos are easily tunable and see 275+BHP with no trouble, embarrassing many other makes on the road. Vauxhall are currently testing a 200BHP Corsa turbo and a supercharged 3.2 Vectra with 302BHP - top speed of 177MPH!

http://www.robbiedonald.pwp.blueyond...2003/pv015.jpg

At the Performance Vauxhall 2003 show a 2.0 turbo Nova easily showed a Scooby a good 3 car lengths at Santa Pod. There are still plenty 4WD turbo Calibra and Cavaliers out there too, most pumping out 250-300BHP.

So if you think you can walk all over Vauxhalls - perhaps think again!

image doctor 10 July 2003 02:37 PM

I dont care how much power they make if they put it through the front wheels.

That is wrong.

RWD or 4WD for that much power.

RobDon 10 July 2003 02:42 PM

It's not wrong, just takes more skill to drive effectively! With TC and ESP turned off they're not as bad as you may think.

I'm not putting down any make of car, especially because of the badge on it , I think Scoobys and EVO's are awesome cars - but Vauxhalls are not as bad as some make out (yes there have been some bad ones I admit in the past!).

The VX220 Turbo - faster than an M3 - oh yes! ;)

Such as Ladas and Renaults maybe:D

image doctor 10 July 2003 02:47 PM

It is wrong - you accelerate out of slower corners and you drive straight on........how great is that

ID - correct!

tfc 10 July 2003 09:36 PM

thats a nice engine bay ..i wonder who's it is...lol

skiddus_markus 11 July 2003 08:46 AM

Why such a convaluted induction route on that pic?Wouldn't it better having the air filter coming from behind the headlight and straight to the turbo?

Dave T-S 11 July 2003 09:07 AM

The VX220 Turbo - faster than an M3 - oh yes!
Got one sitting in my garage (the VXT). I'm not sure if it is quicker than an M3 (and TBH I don't give a toss ;) ) but it is certainly quicker than the MY02 STi Type UK PPP I sold to buy it (and I got the more fun car out of the deal).

I love the anal badge snobbery on here :D

def 11 July 2003 09:28 PM

BEARDS A PLENTY THEN.
HOW MUCH IS 1 AND WHAT COULD YOU HAVE GOTTEN HAD THE VAUXHALL BEARDNESS NOT OVER COME U.
THE ONLY GOOD VAUXHALL HAS A LOTUS BADGE ON IT.

Skidd Markus....thats the only way i could get cold air into it...the intake pipe just sqeezes in under the slam plate and radiator..if i just left it behind the headlight i would be defeating the object and waisted 250 quid on a enclosed air filter
you cant having it going straight to the turbo coz the air intake as to go thru the air metering unit .top left..black peice inbetween the 2 blue silicon pipes back of the viper

[Edited by tfc - 11/07/2003 21:46:45]

skiddus_markus 11 July 2003 09:48 PM

Personally I'd have gone left off the turbo into where I presume the standard airbow was(behind o/s headlight?).I'd have tried to fit a cone filter in the standard box or made up a heatshield(I've been through 3 bespoke heatshields and one homemade box and settled on an Evo rallybox).
Still, the install looks good and it would be boring if we all did the same thing:).

tfc 11 July 2003 09:49 PM

the new vectra rep mobile with the 3.2 kompressor is faster than the lotus carlton

tfc 11 July 2003 09:57 PM

to be quite honest the standard air box with the modifcations and a good panel filter is just as good as the viper up to 200bhp..was told to go for the viper coz i had 250+...besides it looks nicer and i cant tell any difference coz i had a 200cpi sports cat fitted and had the s/s downpipe from the turbo with the pre cat removed and the Bacstuck straight thru group A exhaust

The VXT is £25,495.

What else could I have got for the money? New, with the same performance, nothing - I spent plenty of time trawling the back pages of EVO. :D

Richie1 12 July 2003 08:22 AM

As I said earlier, there are plenty of fast Vauxhalls about. A cratin Calibra Turbo regularly shocks ppl at Crail including a 450+BHP Audi RS4 driver.....

Another 250BHP Calibra turbo driven by a certain Joe Bloggs consistently lapped GoodWood faster than a 450BHP Sierra Cosworth driven by an amateur/pro driver..... (Joe Bloggs 'appens to be a bit of a nutter by all accounts ;))

Remember, car/power is one thing.... The driver is also important

CavT 12 July 2003 12:37 PM

The new 3.2 Kompressor Vectra is NOT faster than a Lotus Carlton!
