MX-5 GIRLS CAR (GIRLIE ENGINE TOO)
I'm sorry but I refuse to accept that an MX-5 can out handle a scoob. Unless you are referring to a dry very curvy (and slow) track with a modified MX-5 versus a version 1 unmodified Scoob. Then the Scoob might not be too many miles ahead. :-) In my opinion, of course. Chuckle. |
Blimey, we had an British racing green (not pink) MX5 1.8 a few years back and loved it, superb go kart handling and a great way to get a sun tan.
Downsides; blokes driving them in Essex attract serious road rage - err, attacked by spanner wielding van drivers etc (gulp!) - not fast enough to get away from determined van drivers etc. :-) Serious green eye magnets. So much for being a woman's car, my missis spun it in the winter on a straight road and smashed up an oncoming car. No injuries thankfully. She's now got a Sport to make sure that she stays on the road :-) Mike |
Up to 11 now :D
Oh and don't diss the 5 too much, it's actually a very good car. Allan |
Adrian
you are confusing grip with handling :p |
You have been misinformed. The MX-5 is nice, but nonetheless inferior to a WRX.
|
They are still 12 ahead - lets make history and for the first time EVER out-vote a group on its OWN forum!! ;)
Pete |
well i've ive got a my99 sti5 that owes me a fortune that its never going to pay me back (and certainly not in its current state in bits!) and i bought a 91 mx5 as a taxi to work so feel somewhat qualified on both, here are my thoughts -
scoob ----- owes me somewhere near 40-45k ish. currently getting a second engine rebuilt, on its second clutch, second turbo, third ecu, fifth exhaust, third set of wheels, four induction kits etc, etc (you get the picture). Has had two gearbox rebuilds, broken down three times and needed towing to a dealer. Needs lots of optimax and booster Summary, great to drive - when i have it, which hasnt really been that often which is a great shame. Would i have another......hmmmmm not that keen on new shape, jury is still out as to whether i would buy another. mx5 --- Paid 3.5k for a smurf blue mx5 with lowered suspension, dodgy deep dish alloys, hks induction kit and honda s2000 starter button (hehe) Never serviced it, never added oil, never changed the plugs, it started everyday come rain or shine (something my link ecu struggled with in its early days!) i ran it for 9 months doing approx 12k miles and i sold it for 4.7k. Was a great laugh to drive, could slide the rear in the wet the wife and kids loved it. Can someone just remind me which car is supposed to be better again.... all of a sudden i find myself querying which vehicle i sold and which i kept.... :p |
Go on, you can slide 'em in the dry too :D
|
DocJock - have you come off the fence yet??
WITHOUT selling one!! ;) I love my MX-5 and it wont lose anything like the money my Scooby has, it won't cost a quarter as much keeping it on the road either!! When the sun shines the MX-5 wins. When you need a family car which is fast then there is only ONE choice of course!! For 40 weeks of the year the Scooby is the best for 12 the MX-5 takes it!! BUT DONT SAY I SAID THAT 'Overthere' :D Pete |
And that is getting off the fence how exactly ?
Stir all the **** you like mate. Just don't expect me to join in acting the ****. |
All told, if I had to buy one or the other i'd probably go for the MX5. Sorry mr. lewis ;)
|
I wouldnt mind one but there is just no room for my hairdryer in the boot!
|
My wife has an MX-5 and I've got an MY00+PPP.
I know a guy who adds turbo conversions to brand new MX-5's. He is trying to get Mazda to honour the three year warranty after the modifications have been added. If they agree, you will be talking about a great car with almost 230bhp (RWD), weighing in at around 1000kg, with a three year warranty for around the £20K mark...! That will be my next car, if they honour the warranty and by the way, here is the current fault list: Wife's MX-5 - 3 years old - NO problems MY00 + PPP - 3 years old - 14 different problems to date (all fixed under warranty thank God!) Just something to think about. Wuss. |
Cant carry my fishing gear in an MX5-so I will go with the Scoob. (I would have anyway :) )
Les |
ptholt
what the fcuk are you doing to your scoob mate to have all these probs, 5 exhausts! are they paper mashay or something ? (im not poking fun but cant belive your post> :) |
all the exhausts etc were just me modding the car to what i wanted and liked, i didnt even touch the mx5 as it was fun to drive without having to change a thing (tho did toy with the idea of the twin exit exhaust as it made me smile hehe).
|
I dunno why the 'hair dressers' tag gets attached to the MX5. Don't they drive Audi TT's these days???
:-) Mike |
Only owners of hairdressing salons drive TTs, the hairdressers themselves drive MX-5s. :-)
Are you MX-5 lovers into flower arranging by any chance? A real Mazda is a 323 GTR :-) Oh and by the way, I thought grip was quite an important part of handling? stir...stir...stir... ha ha |
My 67 year old father bought one on Tuesday  a 1.8i in deep metallic burgundy with cream leather and Nardi wheel etc... actually looks not too bad.....................considering ;)
He told me he was buying a Honda S2000 (to enjoy the last 3 years of driving as he has Parkinsons disease so he is doubtful his license will be renewed) so I eagerly rushed out to see him for a shot of the VTEC madness only to find he'd changed his mind and bought of these things as he didn't think his reflexes were up to the S2000 at full pelt ....... :( Moral of the story.... Fathers will continue to let you down throughout their lives ;) |
Have to agree with Adrian here guys. MX5 = womans car, no question, no matter whether you can sell it for 3 grand more than you paid for it, or if it NEVER ever breaks down, or the insurance is 1p for 5 years, it`s still a womans car.
Just my opinion btw. :D |
I'll scratch your eyes out you bitch!!
Pete :D |
I spoke to a bloke from the MX5 club a couple of years ago and he was saying that the MX5 club sometimes share trackdays with the TVR lot. The modded MX5s run rings round the TVRs apparantly.......
|
Damn they locked the thread, Pete strikes again & just when i was about 2 inquire after MX5's with gold wheels ;) lol
SI |
I assume all those who have a downer on the MX5 haven't driven one. They are an amazing drive, the fanny magnet is always on positive polarity and very very reliable. Get the right colour and always easy to sell. Run on 95 ron, cheap to run and service and totally classless. For a softtop they are quite practical too.
We have an MX5 and an interesting German car too. Is an MX5 better then a Scooby? No not really, depends on what you want out of a car. On a rainy M25 I'd prefer to be in a Scooby, on a warm sunny day give me the MX5 anytime. Of course, we all know that the Scooby /EVO era is long since dead, other manufacturers are able to provide cars with similar power without looking like something out of Max Power, a decent interior and better reliability. Subaru took the crown because they offered massive power at a cheap price. This is not the case anymore and I cannot understand why any of you would spend 27k on such a car these days, the depreciation is going to be horrendous IMHO. Big spoliers looked cool in the late 90's, today they look a little sad. |
sorry but blokes who drive mx5 are normally hairdressers...no wot i mean ;)
|
The blew the cute MX-5 shape when they lost the lift up headlights. MX-5 versus TVR can I put a tenner on the TVR please :D.
|
