thanks mate ,, its starting to take shape a bit now ,, still loads of parts to sort ,, brakes are all refurbished now , brand new KYB adjustable suspension , polished front arms , the list is a big one lol ,, but it will be worth it once it finished but im not going to want to drive it anywhere lol

thinking about doing the same with my RA next aswell lol

I love reading this rebuild threads! There's definitely a satisfaction that comes from knowing you've built it from the wheels up.
Makes me wish I had more time and better skills so I could do more of it myself.

iv ended up doing everything ,, all the bushes and bearing replaced with new or poly , , suspension (new KYB adjustable) , brakes , the whole lot ,,, from the top mounts down is basically a new car or slightly better lol if it hasn't been replaced it been powered coated to better than new

domino46 21 March 2021 08:15 AM

Well nearing the end of doing the underside , one of two tiny bits still to do but 99% is done

Good to see another scooby restored. You went so far with it, would you not have blasted and resprayed the rear drive shafts and springs?? its a pity as they are letting them rear end down.
if you did those and vapor blast the gearbox and engine block it would be like a brand new car.

funds wouldn't allow for this stuff at this stage as iv got another company to do it instead of myself so paying someone to do the stuff I can do at home didn't make sense ,,, but there are a few more things that will need doing before I consider it finished

vapor blasting the gearbox and engine block would not be cheap either as it would need stripping down to be done to any real effect , and im not rebuilding the engine just to clean it up lol

I hear ya, I hard to have money for everything. I get ya about doing stuff yourself, just when I saw everything refitted I thought you were leaving them as is.
I thought you might get away without stripping engine n box to clean them. it will be a beaut when finished

Have you protected those lovely, polished lower arms in some way? I did mine before I fitted them (although not to that level) and after a couple of wet journeys where there was still some salt left on the road they're worse than ever, I assume from the factory they have some kind of passivate on them to stop them corroding which I removed when I cleaned them up.

always helps to have no plans to drive the car lol ,, this is all about restoring it and until its complete its not being driven and then once done its being sold so the next owner can make that choice lol ,, my rally car had a set of polished arms aswell ,, why not lol

J70DDO 25 March 2021 12:57 PM

very soon

thing is I would hate to pass on and leave unfinished projects for the Mrs to deal with so if anything it’s made me realise I need to crack on and get some stuff done

Don't you dare talk like that Steve. You have years left in you yet, tough as old boots.

domino46 30 July 2022 07:32 AM

Bit of a update on the type R , progress is slow but I’m still getting bits done

pretty much all back up and running again as it was stripped to have the bay painted back in Matt finish , loads of new engine bay parts , RAD , power steering cooler , bolt kits , plus a bloody good clean up lol

before anyone says anything I do have the right intercooler to go on but needed cleaning up so have stuck the black one on there for now lol , inlet manifold will be put on soon aswell to finish things off

heath is better thanks mate , not had any more incidents , gave up the fags and gained 2 stone lol , Healthier for it though as I was always under weight

the bolt kit isnt actully a kit for a subaru its self its just ones iv got in big packs and just used the ones iv needed ,,, all yellow zinc plated so all looks the same , even do spring clamps in the same yellow so you can replace quite a bit and get it all matching ,,, falcon workshop supplies ,,, they are on ebay

domino46 05 September 2023 06:57 AM

Just doing the last few bits before it’s finished and going up for sale , fresh wheels and tyres just fitted , just waiting on a exhaust gasket and it’s off for its MOT

my intentions were always to sell it so I have no attachment to it lol ,,, its being sold and the garage is then free for me to start building my WRC shell up so its not like I haven't still got a Subaru or two lol

Haha, ok, as long as you're not running out of scoobys I guess all is well!!:lol1:
Hope you post up the WRC shell, too, that sounds like an interesting project!
