Dave, you can run your ABS through diagnostics to see what codes come up.
This should have the necessary steps http://codes.rennacs.com/ABS-Brakes/...Subaru-ABS.php http://codes.rennacs.com/plugins/Sub...S-23-Vivio.php http://www.ultimatesubaru.org/forum/...ead-abs-codes/ |

Is the replacement sensor a proven working one.

I didn't think you could read the codes from a classic uther than the black connections under the dash? It's a 2000 Uk turbo.
One more linky http://www.subaru-car.ru/for1/for_01_chas_11.pdf |
Have you actually driven the car and used the brakes since putting the new sensor on? Not sure the light will go off with just starting engine and staying parked-up.
Also, are you 100% sure the electrical connectors are fully pushed home? |
If you had lifted the back seat and connected the replacement sensor assuming it is good the abs light should have gone off without fitting it.

I did drive the car as I thought I might go out but it never
|
Maybe the replacement sensor is duff otherwise it is one of the other sensors that are duff but you only need to connect them for the light to go out you do not need to drive the car and if you have a multimeter you could always test the sensor.

Fit it all back together and drive it. Light wont go out until it has read good signal from the new sensor maybe 1/2 a mile usually less :)

Hope you're right  I'll update later. |
But when you just switch the ignition on and wait, with a good sensor the abs light goes out so it does not know if the reluctor ring is faulty as the car has not moved.Hope you sort it and please put your results up for us .
|
So driving it never worked. I take it when the abs light is on the abs is not working as I tried some hard braking and it locked up! (This was under 30mph!)
I'm off work for 2 weeks starting on Friday. I'll see if I can take it somewhere then cause I give up! |
Good luck.

Pull the fuse and be done with it. :D

All fixed at last!! Must have been a faulty sensor I was sent. Bought a new one( after market just to try) and got the garage to fit this one before its MOT and it worked!! Apparently you need to drive it between 7and 14mph for a few minutes and then it goes out? Anyway, it also passed another MOT with no advisories :).
