Dave, you can run your ABS through diagnostics to see what codes come up.

This should have the necessary steps

I didn't think you could read the codes from a classic uther than the black connections under the dash? It's a 2000 Uk turbo.

Is the replacement sensor a proven working one.

Try it. Worked fine (pain in the neck to connect) on my 1998 Classic. Only ground pin 6 IIRC

Have you actually driven the car and used the brakes since putting the new sensor on? Not sure the light will go off with just starting engine and staying parked-up.

Also, are you 100% sure the electrical connectors are fully pushed home?

If you had lifted the back seat and connected the replacement sensor assuming it is good the abs light should have gone off without fitting it.

Apparently it's working. When I first tried just the new one I just plugged it in and the light went out but then came back on again. I thought this was because it was just sitting in the back and not in the correct position. I fear I have another problem as I Connected the wires up again in the old one first but that didn't work either.

Davec30 13 October 2015 10:51 PM

I did drive the car as I thought I might go out but it never

Maybe the replacement sensor is duff otherwise it is one of the other sensors that are duff but you only need to connect them for the light to go out you do not need to drive the car and if you have a multimeter you could always test the sensor.

Thought as much:(. I'll need to get a multi meter and get it checked.

Fit it all back together and drive it. Light wont go out until it has read good signal from the new sensor maybe 1/2 a mile usually less :)

Not doubting your advice but mine went out when it was not fitted to the hub and just plugged in under the back seat as the signal was i assume read as in a normal start up.

See, I did think this as I thought the light came on if there was a problem with any part on the abs? So if the ring was damaged the light would come on and if the sensor was out it would detect a fault?? (All guess work!!) I did take it for a short run so I'll need to take it a longer run and see if it goes off then.

Hope you're right

I'll update later.

johned 16 October 2015 08:19 PM

But when you just switch the ignition on and wait, with a good sensor the abs light goes out so it does not know if the reluctor ring is faulty as the car has not moved.Hope you sort it and please put your results up for us .

So driving it never worked. I take it when the abs light is on the abs is not working as I tried some hard braking and it locked up! (This was under 30mph!)
I'm off work for 2 weeks starting on Friday. I'll see if I can take it somewhere then cause I give up!

johned 17 October 2015 07:00 PM

Good luck.

Pull the fuse and be done with it. :D

Did you sort it.

All fixed at last!! Must have been a faulty sensor I was sent. Bought a new one( after market just to try) and got the garage to fit this one before its MOT and it worked!! Apparently you need to drive it between 7and 14mph for a few minutes and then it goes out? Anyway, it also passed another MOT with no advisories :).
