Your other question as pointed out by the usual suspect (aka my shadow) was answered in an earlier post not addressed directly to you granted.

Actually, I think you were right first time. Here's your "getting our taxes back" person:

Chip

OK then so the fact that the only times there has been general rioting on the streets of Britain has been in times of economic fragility coupled with austerity measures is just a coincidence is it?

The fact that it doens't really affect these people is not the point, it's their perception that it does!

It only seems to happen in the Summer - what do you make of that?

I see they left Waterstones alone. Probably because none of the idiots could read.

Er.... it rains in winter and is cold.

Seriously if it rains hard tonight it will be all over at least until it dries out.

In fact it's probably Cameron's only hope seeing as he is intent on doing nothing.

OK so what is he doing? Serious question as I didn't see anything in the headlines other than him recalling parliament and condemning the rioters.

Well obviously i don't know what you're expecting, but putting 16,000 Police on duty tonight and reiterating the intention to prosecute each and every perpetrator is a decent first step, no? Water cannon, tear gas and rubber bullets have also been sanctioned.

Scoober-Dubs 09 August 2011 02:17 PM

After seeing Mr Cameron's tough speech, I'm sure that we can all sleep safely in our beds tonight.

I trust that when they bring in another 10,000 boys in blue to stand by and watch these degenerates continue with their merry little rampage... there will be enough bobbies to watch the rioting in the rest of the country if it spreads further??:wonder:

TinyTim 09 August 2011 02:20 PM

BBC News has just reported that Police chiefs havn't ruled out use of plastic bullets.

Good, that's the least they should be considering.

boxst 09 August 2011 02:27 PM

In addition to protecting all the areas, they need to pick one and go in 'full force' and take them all down and hopefully show the rest of the rioters what will happen if they continue.

urban 09 August 2011 02:28 PM

Plastic bullets, gas & water cannons will help.

The plastic ones won't be as effective as the real ones mind you.

Wow .. Paul Daniels (of all people) saying something I completely agree with:

Again, years ago, when the Brixton riots exploded and the TV station's journalists all leapt into action and covered the story, riots burst out all over the place. Perhaps it's not such a good idea to promote such happenings in the media in the way they are depicted. Perhaps it would be better if instead of the destruction we saw the police shoving the criminals into wagons, saw the arrests, heard about the sentencing, in other words promoted the fact that criminals DO get caught and have to pay consequences.

Just to clarify, at present there are no Water Cannons on the Mainland. This is well documented. The one the Met Police had was given to the PSNI.

Even if there was one it would be so ineffective as there are multiple seats of unrest and it would take too long to get it deployed for one place to another

500 09 August 2011 03:28 PM

The vast majority of the rioters don't know why they are doing it, how are we going to work out why they are?

What we didn't need is for London to call for Police from all over the country to come and join them fight to save the capital. Leave the rest of the country with half a force
and the looting will start everywhere else!

If that is the case, and I don't doubt you, what was the point of announcing that water cannon can be used other than to gain some sort of political high ground?
