Surely buying an unlocked phone direct from Apple is the better option for you? then you cam switch on to a simplicity tarif when your contract ends. No need to buy out your contract or pay a ridiculous price for the phone on contract.

Nice one, thanks for that!

I want to pay no more than £35, and it seems Vodafone have the best deal/cheapest phone at that price.

O2 have said the iPhone 4 is only available for existing customers for the first month iirc. Just had a email due to stock shortage maybe the same for others

Bravo2zero_sps 18 June 2010 08:40 PM

This from o2

O2's response to iPhone stock shortage

iPhone 4 will only be available for existing O2 customers at launch

iPhone stock will be extremely limited in the UK at launch and not everybody who wants one will be able to get one straight away. We want to make sure that our existing customers get priority so until at least the end of July, only existing O2 customers will be able to get an iPhone 4 from us.

Whether you're an existing O2 mobile customer looking to upgrade, or one of our broadband customers looking to move your mobile to O2, our iPhone stock is reserved exclusively for you.

Where can you buy iPhone 4?

On 24 June, iPhone 4 will be available in O2 shops, as well as Carphone Warehouse, Best Buy, Phones4U and Apple stores.

iPhone 4 will not be available on the o2.co.uk online shop until at least the end of July.

Who can buy iPhone 4?

This exclusive iPhone 4 offer is open to our mobile, mobile broadband, home broadband and home phone customers who have been with us since at least 24 May 2010.

What if I'm not an existing O2 customer?

We'd love you to join O2, however we always try to give our existing customers priority. As soon as we are able to, we will offer iPhone 4 to everyone who wants one on O2.

Ouch at Orange who just seem to have totally priced themselves out. Big question for me is if 02 will honour current friends & family discount. If not Ill be off to Vodafone as a) cheaper and b) I want to see if their network coverage is better at my house (cant be worse than O2).

HD Video looks good. Better than I was expecting from such a tiny lens.

Their is no way that the new iphone is around £300 better than a HTC Desire, yeh the iphone does some nice things but apple know that they are the pied piper in all of this and all they have to do is to play a tune and a lot of iphone worshippers will follow regardless of whether the phone is worth the price or not.

Its like the "I have to have it regardless" syndrome.

I don't get where the £300 comes from?

I've just googled, and could buy an HTC Desire, SIM free, for £395. A 16GB iPhone 4 would cost £499 - so just over £100 different, and that's GOT to be worth it!

Even a SIM free iPhone 3GS would only cost £299 - so £100 LESS than the HTC Desire - and that has got to be a bargain in comparison!

Compare like-with-like and the picture changes from the one you present...

Interesting to see the tech sites starting to take a snipe already
http://www.t3.com/news/iphone-4-suff...s-arise?=46603

Wasnt it T3 that said about iPad issues too?

Sure its an easy fix, cant imagine them launching something so flawed.

P1Fanatic 24 June 2010 01:05 PM

My mate has 3 turning up from Apple today (he hopes). 2 for his brother in law in finland as apparently they are going nuts for them over there and people are offering 1000+ euros for one.

Ive still 4 months to go with O2 so Ill just wait thank you.

Had a play with some in the local o2 shop at lunchtime. No screen or apparent signal issues with any of them.

Screen was nice, not as much of a difference from that on my 3G as I had expected, but a decent upgrade none the less. Camera looks much improved, although as a photographer If i want a quality shot I'll use a proper camera anyway. Fast in operation, and a nice bit of kit.

Overall it appears to be a decent upgrade from my 3G, but I'll be waiting until my contract comes to an end.

Snazy 24 June 2010 02:16 PM

Cool stuff, did wonder how much truth there was to the whole thing. Seems such a simple thing to get wrong.
Must be a simple reason for it behaving that way.

Jimpreza 24 June 2010 02:47 PM

Are people getting the 16 or 32 iphone 4?

Ant 24 June 2010 04:19 PM

i got the 16gb the 32gb ran out :(

More_Boost 24 June 2010 04:34 PM

The 4's new software has fooked my 3GS in certain places, but it seems to be a problem with a few users, time they sort it I will probably have the 4 by then. :D

A lot of tech sites are speculating that a sweaty hand is conducting between wifi and radio antennae (which are adjacent) and killing the signal. Also, Apple tested them all in big rubber cases to disguise them as 3Gs which would have masked the problem.

Whatever, there's enough videos of it now that it appears to be true - bit of a bugger up.

subaruturbo_18 24 June 2010 07:31 PM

Compared a iphone 4 to a 3gs at work today, and the signal on the 4 was less than that of the 3gs.

Overall i wasn't that impressed with the new 4. Not a great deal different that has any major use. It is a bit smoother to use, and you can do HD video recording, but other phones do do that.

I found it amusing watching customers come in going mad for it and almost having a nervous breakdown when we tell them its already sold out :D :lol1:

Sleep timer bug not fixed :(

Smart move apple

what part of "shut down ipod" dosent regisister in the firmware programming team's brain? lol

oh we'll ill give him hell at the next keynote!!!

Mart :D

JackClark 24 June 2010 10:52 PM

Mart, I think it's the reason I mentioned on another thread. Sleep iPod on the iPhone does just that, sleeps the iPod... not the iPhone. My iPhone goes to sleep on it's own after a while if nothing's playing anyway. Perhaps you can set your iPod to sleep after 5 mins of no use, that way the timer will stop your music playing then the iPod will sleep. Or have I missed something. It's a feature I used all the time, set it for an hours music then fall asleep, iPod's off when I wake up.

subaruturbo_18 do you not like the phone itself, is it really the slimmest smartphone available? Does the glass - that Apple invented - feel good in the hand? Are you allowed to say anything good about Apple products? I know you probably get better commission on lesser brands and that will sway you but you're anonymous on here, try to say something positive.

Sorry i didn't realise how negative i sounded. Yes i do like the phone, it looks good, and of course it's nice to use. But being taken in by all of the hype i guess i was expecting a little more. The glass feels solid and strong, and i don't think there is anything out there smart phone wise that is thinner. It is, and will be a very popular phone. I guess just after working with phones for so long i get bored of them easily :lol1:

and for the record, commission doesn't really drive me, I'd rather spend the time to help the customer so i know they wont come back with problems, than just selling as much as i possibly can without taking customer satisfaction in to consideration. And also i have quite a few Apple products, a Mac, Logic studio, an iPod touch, and i am looking to purchase a new screen and some other bits.

SiPie 24 June 2010 11:55 PM

Have to say that design wise I was hugely underwhelmed and feel there is more style in the 3GS.

Screen resolution superb however
