V My 3 year warranty is directly with Liaco Ltd - it’s not with Motorpoint or Subaru UK or anyone else but it comes with European cross border acceptance. Liaco Ltd say that if the car needs warranty work, then I just need to go to my nearest Authorised Subaru Repairer who will guide me through the process and will not charge me for the repairs. Subaru UK publicly refused to honour these warranties given by Liaco Ltd. I now have confirmation directly from Subaru Europe that Subaru UK have changed their mind. (or maybe someone changed it for them !) - so this supports the recent What Car? report. I have an emailed letter from Mr Ikeda, President of Subaru Europe based in Belgium. He is writing to me on behalf of the manufacturer Fuji Heavy Industries, who I contacted originally about the warranty question. This is what he says:- Thank you for your letter of 3 and 8 December and for the additional information that you provided. We are taking the liberty of contacting you by e-mail given the delays in the postal service that are taking place over the Christmas period. We are now pleased to inform you that the Subaru manufacturer's warranty will be valid (subject to its normal terms and conditions) provided that you have a warranty booklet duly issued by an authorised Subaru dealer in the European Economic Area. We understand that Subaru UK will be recontacting affected customers (such as yourself) shortly to confirm this. We apologise for the inconvenience recently caused to you as a valued Subaru customer. Now that this matter has been resolved in your favour, we hope you do not mind if we ask you a few questions related to your purchase to complete our records : 1. Please could you inform us of the name and address of the first registered keeper of your vehicle (as stated on your registration document). 2. Please could you inform us on what date the vehicle was registered by the first registered keeper and on what date you were registered as the registered keeper (as stated on your registration document). 3. Please could you inform us whether you received the letter of 11 January 2005 (with the Liaco invoice and the warranty booklet) direct from Liaco or indirectly through Motorpoint. 4. Please could you confirm that you did not sign a mandate or an intermediary agreement (appointing Motorpoint or any other party to purchase the car on your behalf) or a leasing contract in respect of the vehicle. 5. Please confirm whether the vehicle was in stock at Motorpoint when you purchased it. May we take this opportunity to thank you for your assistance in this matter and express our best wishes for the holiday season. Yours sincerely Hiroyuki IKEDA President SUBARU EUROPE I cannot say at this stage whether this means that cars which continue to be purchased from Motorpoint (unauthorised resellers I believe) are covered by the above letter but I have emailed Subaru Europe for clarification on this. Anyone in the same situation as myself may want to contact Subaru UK and ask them to confirm in writing their commitment to honouring the 3 yr pan European warranties given by Liaco Ltd. I'd have no problem if you wanted to quote from the above letter ! |

Great news that this is all finally getting sorted out. I still haven't got all my paperwork sorted through Motorhouse 2000 (they've asked me to send copies of my driving license and V5) so I'm hoping everything will be smooooooth now following IM's change of heart.
Mind you, I did notice on my Motorhouse 2000 invoice, under 'Special Instructions' they wrote: "Authorise Motorhouse 2000 Ltd to act on my behalf as an intermediary in the purchase of this vehicle". Maybe that's why they were always confident my warranty would be OK. Ah well so long as I get the warranty I do care how they do it really. |
Thats it - Its all over I have a Uk warranty confirmed this morning by Subaru Uk in writing, my vehicle is now on the warranty database!
What a result. |

I too have had a letter from IM this morning confirming that I have a valid warranty and that my car is now on the database. Good news all round.

I presume your all out in the snow having fun in your scoobies, I have also brought a car from Motorpoint Derby 3 months ago. They offered me a 3 year Motorpoint warranty and said i could follow the UK service interval. Now Subaru Europe have agreed to honour the warranty and i presume we will have to service it by the service book at 3,000, 9,000, 14,000, 24,000 miles etc or has anybody been told any different? I had my first oil and filter service at 1,000 miles and now seems stupid to have another one 2,000 miles later and a main service at 9,000 miles, when the UK interval is every 12,000miles. The UK Interval is 10K as far as I know Andy.
You'll want to follow the services shaded grey in the book I think. They are 1,10,19,29,38,48,57 etc. etc. It goes up in 9 then 10 then 9 then 10 and so forth. |

I got my WRX from Motorpoint in Jan 05. I contacted Subaru Malta about the servicing intervals etc and it's in the attached post. I take it that Subaru UK dealers either don't know why the Malta servcing intervals are shorter than UK - or maybe they're quite happy to get some extra cash out of us ! http://bbs.scoobynet.co.uk/showthread.php?t=478310 Tim. |
Thanks a lot Tim, you've just saved me a fair bit of money, should be able to afford the exhaust now :luxhello: BUT :confused: if I do change my exhaust it will void the warranty, which is stupid seeing as the exhaust isn't covered in the warranty, but they say it affects the performance of the car and therefore any changes could affect the engine. At the moment I have the standard WRX twin exit back box which doesn't give the real Subaru note but 3 years is a long time to wait :Whatever_ . In the case of a warranty claim Subaru say if you do change your exhaust and then replace it with the old standard one they can tell through computer diagnostics what’s caused the problem. :cry: the trouble with having a new car!!

i have still had no word. anyway following mods are days away- scott lowe mudflaps + scott lowe silver top & bottom grilles and some subaru reversing sensors.
i've canned my PPP plan cos i doubt Motorpoint will still be offering that other warranty...unless my *friendly* local scooby dealer will fit it & not register it for me :D |
