Default Tamron vs Nikon VR

I'm considering getting rid of my Nikon 18-200mm travel lens in favour of a 16-300mm Tamron lens. Am I mad?

Has anyone had any real life experience of the two lens?

I've never been a fan of wide to tele lenses, too many things have to be only partly done to get it to work.

On mine I have a Nikon 17-55 F2.8 that cost more than a brand new D300 body, and a Nikon 70-300 VR tele.

if you can get a f2.8 that covers you for so many different types of light situations.

you can hand hold at f2.8 for low light shots too
