Race thread. Awesome.

In a straight line they're nothing to get excited about, its the twisties where they come into their own.

Our 182 has about 200bhp (still looks standard tho) and was giving all sorts of things runs for their money at a sprint day last year

Is it me or does the 182 not give the game away, won't need much to get the extra 18 bhp needed to get it to 200bhp probably only running an induction kit will see you very close to that.

When will people running near standard scoobys realise that they are not the all conquering beast they once were.

So two fat lads in a scooby running circa 260bhp weighing 1500kg + amps and subs, come up against some spotty lad in a 182 slightly modded to say 200bhp that in total probably weighs nigh on 200 kg less, not including the fat lads that between them weigh another 160kg + against the 65kg dripping wet teenager and think they are going to blow him away on the road.

Have you never heard of power to weight ratio

You need a clear 100bhp advantage to leave any car for dead on the road, and lets not even start about torque figures and driver skill.

The average rep mobile can stay with a standard scooby these days.

So it's no real suprise that a 182 can manage it.

At speed there will be very little in it as neither car will be running at 100% due to the bends and having to slow down constantly etc. It comes down to the handling set up and both are equally good at handling so not a surprise both were very even. As said above both will have similar power to weight ratios and the Clio doesn't have to wait for a turbo to kick in. I had a fiesta ST stick to me briefly a few weeks back when I came off a roundabout. I couldn't use 2nd as it was too brutal to use going round the bend so shifted up to 3rd and for a good two secs it stuck with me. I've got 356bhp but whereas I had to change up to 3rd the fiesta was probably able to stay in 1st round the roundabout and use all his gears. I couldn't but even so was surprised it stayed close when I was in third although it certainly didn't stay with me once I got on the straight. But searching on YouTube I found there wasn't much in it between an M3 and fiesta ST off the line. As said above unless you have an ariel atom the difference won't be noticeable. But who cares at the end of the day. I love my car even if I cruise at 60 on a motorway and all the diesel drones speed past. Nice when you have an open empty road though

I'm not saying that's not possible but the Fester must have been very heavily modified.

I used be be all over M3's on back roads when I had my 106GTI.

Take straight line speed out of the equation, and most sorted Hot Hatches will keep up with car much more powerful, expensive, and exotic.

The only way you can leave a Hot Hatch behind on back roads, is having the power advantage when having to pass slower cars. While a powerful car needs a short straight to overtake, a hot hatch will need a longer straight.

'A private road'. Haha!

On a road a lot of things can keep up with a Scoob, certainly a well driven Clio. The car in front has no chance of pulling away btw, unless it's something much quicker, as they've got to be careful. The one behind can just follow the lines you take - so where you have to hold off to the last minute to make sure a corner is ok to cut, the car following can just stay flat out and do what you do.

I can remember when they used to put the red top 2 litre 16v gte engine in the nova's they would beat a standard uk scoob and they was only 150bhp so there is no surprise a nearly 200 bhp match box can keep with a standard sti . a mate of mine has a 450bhp mr2 and he said a 200bhp corsa vxr can keep with him up to a ton. plus you never no whats under the bonnet of any car these days lets face it they wouldnt try if they didnt think they had a chance would they.

I had 260bhp in my classic and I struggled to beat a clio 182. I was really annoyed at the time as I was only a tiny bit faster.

However a few years later I had a 172 and I was marginally quicker than a classic sti with 4 people in it.

They are certainly not slow

clio 180 bhp sti 260 bhp = 80bhp difference nearly 100 bhp more and clio was still ther no way was that cliterous standard

Yes but add two fat lads and the subs and like i said there is nothing in it.

Oh and i'll break those fingers off in your a$$, if you would like to pop over to fight club lardy, flipping the bird on the main board at people you don't know will get you looking like this
