Nice m3 for the money, except he's probably kerbed the wheels and got them refurbed black.

Maybe he just had the wheels sprayed black because he likes them like that , the same reason I had mine done , there was no curbing on my wheels , don't be so cynical.

I do love your m3 Ian but just aren't a fan of black alloys. Especially when the finish of the m3 alloys is Diamond cut.

It's definitely one on my list to own, enough power for road use and odd track day, imo build quality is right up there, its comfortable, fully loaded in most cases, ok you could get an impreza with more power for that money but after 5 days in my first BMW they are an extremely well set up and built car. For now my 330ci will do as my daily runner and when funds allow a more powerful toy will be on its way

only issue i do have with the M6 is the re-sale value, have you seen how cheap the 6 series has become, shocking at least i would hope and assume that the m3 would hold value better and you would have a bigger market to sell it on to

Stevie I think your spot on in terms of the SMG boxes they are the Achilles heel with the M5 /M6's. (most need replacing every 30k miles & costs about £3k to do IIRC). I suppose a few years old, manual, E90 M3 makes more sense.
Hatch imports are generally better spec'd than UK cars, my 08 STI has the winter pack (heated wiper elements, mirrors and seats) as standard, and a Premium Euro car is the same spec as a 330s with Recaros, Nav and BBS alloys, just no PPP.

Funny I came across this thread as I was about to post up here some questions on the E90/92 M3's!

As above I currently have a 08 STI which is running 340ish, now for the life of me I cannot find a replacement I want, I'm not going to pay another 10k for a newer hatch which is less powerfull than mine and pretty much only has a different front bumper and some black trim, RS4's are getting a bit old, 997 to small, so all I can come up with is an M3, which the missus likes too, however she will not consider a 335 (and nor will I).

Now my issues are running costs (well I don't know what they are like on an M3), the hatch is cheap to run other than fuel (avereage 26mpg) and road tax, it's a daily driver and will be used for the school run 5 days a week, start, drive 1 mile, turn engine off, turn enginb on, drive 1 mile home, turn engine off and then repeat in the afternoon and for the rest of the week, I hear short journeys and town driving is bad in an M3, well it is a V8 but can anyone pass on some real life facts?

One downside is 2wd, the hatch was amazing last winter and never got stuck once, my estate was litered with dumped/stranded BMW's, again any real life experiences would be appreciated.

And finally 2dr v 4dr, I love the coupe but having a kid 4dr is way more sensible, however the few pics I have seen of the 4dr and they look totally different and I'm even less keen.

So never had a BM before let alone and M3 so anything anyone feels they want to pass on let me know, if I don't get one I reckon I'll keep the hatch for another 12/18 months, nothing wrong with it just fancy a change!

Cheers
A

if you can afford the Petrol the E9x M3s are a great daily drive , as I've said in 18 months motoring from new its had cost me a round £400-500 in service cost (just the run-in service and a brake fluid service ) if you follow the manufacturre's sevice schedule, but i did a oil change in between my 8000miles as I don't like Bmw 15k miles oil change schedule.
Its needs 8.8 litres of Castrol TWS motor sport oil for M engines @ £14 a litre !!, but I get mine from Oilman .

the V8 is super smooth but lacks a bit of torque low down if yr used to Turbo charged motors.
best 4dr performance car I've had since my E60 M5 (some would say it a better car than the M5 as i easier to chuck around town , but the V10 in the M5 is awesome ).

now is the time to buy one as with the reccession you can pick up a bargain(even more so on the E60 M5 ).

I'll try to be as objective as I can bearing in mind we are on a scooby forum.

The V8 M3 just can't be compared to any subaru, they are worlds apart (and cost as is goes).

The M3 does ooze class, the build quality is stunning, the quality of the leather to the multi adjustment electric seats with multiple lumber supports are just stunning. The newer iDrive and prof nav are also great.

Plus my car has some other nice touches such as logic7 sound system and TV etc..

I really liked my old Hawkeye Spec-C but it was a tin pot light weight one trick pony.

The M3 has many layers, especially DCT and EDC equipped ones (mine has both), one minute it's a motor cruiser like any well specced 3 series, however on a country lane you can flip the box into manual shift (this has 5 levels of shift speed / aggression), put EDC suspension on a firmer session and rev to high heaven, the car pulls like a train, especially in the upper echelons of the power band.

You can also adjust the side bolsters at this point to hold you in firmly, the engine makes a great sound, exhaust could be a little fruitier but it is a true V8 sound, and nothing really compares to that.

Its as quick as my old spec-c to 60 but quicker once up to these speeds, plus there is the M mode, that again had multiple settings, you can have a bit of tail out action whilst keeping a safety net engaged or just turn everything off, be warned it will bite you though as 414 horses through the rear wheels with traction control off can be a bit scary.

It's crap in the snow though, you won't even make a small hill unless you have good momentum.... In fact it's just worth leaving it parked on your driveway or get a 2nd set of wheels with winter tyres.

The massers do sound great though, I'm not sure I could stomach the depreciation. you right about running costs on a GTR, they do require deep pockets..

GT3 no good for me as i need rear seats and certainly don't fancy a 99x turbo...

M3 will probably stay, it's a damn fine all rounder and a beast when you want to give it the beans.
