Anyone got one, or tried one?? Opinons? I've got an E90 330d M-Sport at the moment, and it's a fantastic car, but it's coming up to 5 years old so defo time for a change.

Quite liking the F10 530d M-Sport idea, but have only sat in one in the dealers - not driven one or been in one moving. Assuming ride and handling will be good, with similar performance to the current 330d.

Anyone aware of any particular pro's or con's with these?

I presume Pete wants something more econimical to run than an amg/m power car and thats why he is looking at the 530d.

Pete my biggest issue with the car was a certain lack of composure over certain kinds of road surfaces especially when you hit them mid corner. I think the run flats have a big role in this and I've never owned a car before with rfts.
If you are used to them then this may not be such a big issue for you.

I also initially complained about the steering but I think that was an error as I had been spoiled by the m5.

It is a fantastically well screwed together car and the interior is a lovely place to be. Better than any equivalent effort from merc, audi etc.

The engine is very smooth and most of the time you don't know its a diesel. The toys are fantastic and all work well.

Remember one thing though, this is a very big car, its about the size of previous 7 series. As a result it drives accordingly. Only think about buying it if you really want/need the space, if you don't, stick to the 3 series.

The best advice I can give is make sure you have an extended test drive including over bumpy/bad roads.

All in all I'd rather have this car than the equiv merc, audi, jag etc. If money were no object then I'd much rather have an amg etc but thats not a fair comparison.

I can't wait to drive the new M5 just to see if M branch can make a car this big and heavy 'dance'

Thanks for the info Ding. Interesting that you mention the size as that's one thing which I was a bit concerned about. I would go for another 3 series, but with the all-new model being released next summer I don't want to get a nearly new one then take a big hit on depreciation when the new ones comes out, hence going for the 5. Think I'll see if the dealer will lend me one for a couple of days. Finding some bumpy roads won't be a problem!..

What are you averging MPG-wise? I'm assuming you have the optional 19" wheels, or just the standard M-Sport ones?

Would love an AMG, but the fuel and insurance hit would be too painful!

What about a 3 series coupe/ Alpina D3 or do you need 5 seats/4 doors?

Although the new 3 is out next year I understand the coupe won't follow for at least another year after that (I know that's certainly the case with Alpinas).

Yes I'm on the optional 19 inch wheels. My average over the first 1500 miles is 29.3mpg, quite a lot of my journeys are short and in traffic so not that bad.

Some people say the mpg gets better on a diesel engine after its got a few more miles under its belt, I've no idea whether that is blls6t or not.

Zip's suggestion seems quite sensible

Zips right about the coupe, took almost 2 years before the E92 was launched after the E90.

I love the E92 - think it looks great in M-Sport spec with the 19" wheels, but what puts me off the issue with the wheels cracking. The roads around Leeds are terrible, and I wouldn't want all the hassle and expensive of having to get them replaced.

Opinions on the F10 5 series are sounding generally positive so far, so defo going to test drive one and take it from there!

I'm the opposite, I'm glad my E92 SE isn't the M Sport with that tacky plastic rear bumper, its chav and looks terrible. My 18s look just fine and no issues with them cracking either. Probably a better ride quality too!

Also the SE BMW Official Aero Kit front splitter (I don't have) makes the front look just as good as an MSport.

TBH I think only you and Matteeboy have that opinion on here. No way does the Msport kit look chavvy. The SE just looks like a rep mobile imo.

So lets get this straight. An E92 M Sport is a tacky piece of chav sh6te, yet your E92 SE looks just luverly?? You do realise they are the same car don't you??

Of course I know its the same car I didn't say the whole car was chav did I - I said the bumper FFS. Jeez good old SN for taking a comment and twisting it to make it more than its meant. I do like the way the E92 looks in either guise (you can't say either look like a repmobile IMHO), and much better than the saloon which does look like one, I just really don't like the plastic Msport rear bumper - doesn't matter what model its on.

But then this is SN and no-one is allowed an opinion
