Yes, up to about 150mph then he'll pi$$ all over you.
He should be far quicker off the line unless you're doing a rolling start.

Interesting call.
As standard the Porsche is ahead by 50ish BHP, equal on torque, Porsche weighs 200KG less.
I would hazard a guess that a remapped 335i would edge it in a straight line but loose everywhere else.
Look forward to finding out how you get on.

Very close I reckon. Your torque advantage should help you hammer it out of bends.

Does the 335i have LSD and uprated brakes? If not try to have a roll race in a straight line in the dry and stop before the speeds get too high.

That doesn't reflect too well on the Porsche really does it? A little quicker than a Beemer, half its price. Does the coupe share the same platform as the lardy 4 door family saloon?

One's a middle manager rep mobile (no offence intended) the other's a premium sports coupe with a long lineage of sporting history.

There's quite a few cars out there faster than other cars out there that cost a fair bit less.

Might surprise you, but *some* people buy a car because of what it is, not because it might be quicker than some ricer!

I thought people bought Porsches because they were sports cars designed to be quick. I would have thought that the point above would have been relevant if the car in question was an S class not a Porsche 911 C4S.

I was only relaying facts! Coupe is actually heavier than the saloon. Touring slightly heavier than both but more less drag. 335d track time at Brunters quicker than a 335i ;-) By a massive 0.1s!

The C4S with power kit manages to dip into the 11s on a quarter mile. That fulfils my definition of quick. A few tuned 335i manage to get into the 11s.

Typical example of 11 sec 335i - Hoosier, LSD, transmission mods, passenger seat out, FMIC, tune, exhaust, intake, funny fuel/meth inj isn't denied.

I rate a performance car on its ability to go, stop and corner with reliability, practicality and civility relative to its costs. I can't actually recall ever driving a car that goes, stops and corners properly that has such a severe problem with steering or "handling" that it would put me off. Image doesn't matter to me, and history/brand values are arguably an encumbrance to producing the best engines, chassis and brakes. For example, BMW and Porsche don't fit proper diffs to midrange models to avoid trespassing on the ground of the halo models. Porsche insist on keeping the 911 rear engined because of heritage. BMW doggedly stick to a weight distribution that is based around a marketing ideal rather than something which gives best traction, and then fit single piston brakes which are only useful for shopping trips.

And whilst we're here, in showing no brand bias, Subaru insist on building weak 2.5 litre engines with poor exhaust manifold design and 5 speed gearboxes, Mitsubishi make their strongest gearboxes missing a 6th gear, Nissan have stupid service intervals, poor cooling and an excessively rear biased torque distribution that doesn't capitalise on the benefits of AWD as well as an Evo.

Just my 2p, some will certainly disagree I was near to buying a 997 or a 335i last year after all, and none of the options are anywhere near to perfection.

My idea of perfection:

Front mid engined aluminium supercharged V8 (probably LSx) with AWD, low weight, good aero with some downforce, massive brakes, proper rear diff, 2 seats, big boot, non-RFT, electronically adjustable suspension and a rear mounted automatic gearbox (not dual clutch).

No one builds it of course, but it brings together my ideals.

Zip, it does beg the question though why does a custom built 2+2 sports car coupe that costs so much more and is far less practical barely beat a middle of the road family car/rep mobile around a track??

It's not the same as comparing the Porsche with a nos injected piece of jap crap with a 2p interior. The beemer is still a well put together reliable non chavvy car that is unmodified.
You would have expected the Porsche to kill the humble 3 series beemer, it's not even a M car.
