Quite a tricky spec really.
Volvo XC70 - slightly off roady but pretty comfy.
Audi are the only ones that do comfy performance/prestige road biased 4x4s "properly" though unless you spend Bentley/Porker money.

Tell him not to get a Merc R500. Its like, well I cant describe it. Its a 4x4, people wagonny type thing, well kitted out but ugly as sin (coming from a Bugeye owner), depreciates like a Yugo, and fuel economy is terrible.
I nkow you didnt ask what not to recommend, but I cant not recommend it highly enough(if you get what I mean)

The Panamera should have broken away from the "oversized 911" mould that the Cayenne used. It should have been a 928 replacement - instead it look like a fat 911 with an awkward **** end. And although very quick, reports seem to suggest it misses Porsches usual trump card - a dynamic chassis with loads of steering feedback.
That's a bit like having a Land Rover that's cack off road.

Volvo S80 V8 AWD [Combined mpg Automatic 23.7] £48,307.00 buys you a fully loaded example that would put large exec car's to shame. Unpretentious it defiantly is, prestigious though? If he is a Lexi driver and anti-Audi, perhaps it will be right up his street?

I have had a little shot in a Panamera, its truly awesome. I know its predicable for me to recommend a Porsche but they are just such smile inducing cars to own, Everyone else on the road hates but you are in a blissful world of your own.
