I think I'm going to buy a Fiat 500
Ok, sold the wifes car and she's having mine. Don't want to use the Impreza every day, so have been looking for a runaround.
Anyway, I'd kind of made my mind up that it was going to be a 500 Abarth, possibly with the SS pack if I could justify the extra... but I've just seen one of the Ferrari special editions and it looked ace.
As its a lot rarer, I figure it should hold its value better- and It probably one of those cars that I'd keep forever if fate is kind to me- so do you think it would be a better buy?
Also, does anyone know if they can be mapped etc? Haven't found out yet if the ferrari is n/a or t/c like the abarth? Going hunting for 500 forums now...

The Abarth 500 was on Fifth Gear last night. Fantastic looking car and it won their mini hatch challenge. However they thought the Suzuki Swift was more fun.

Nearly bought one when they first came out, couldnt justify the expense and she wanted the old one, so rather than her enjoying driving the new one I spend a fair proportion of my time, spannering, welding, painting and swearing at the old one, its hillarious to drive though, 19 bhp never felt so sporty !
I say go for it, I have seen blokes driving the normal ones and if in a suitable colour, with alloys and that they are perfectly acceptable, the Abarth even more so, they get a good right up and I suspect you wont be able to resist the temptation to give it at least one track day

Ferrari edition would be the one to get, limited run to 200 though, having said that for me I with my sensible head on the Abarth is a cool car. I think I like white better as a colour too.

Give over, the Ferrari edition has 100 bhp and no turbo, the Abarth has a turbo and 135 bhp plus options to give more, I cant see you being happy with a 100 bhp 1.4 for very long, especially as the engine doesnt actually get that good a write up, also the Abarth will have the proper chassis
To me, a Ferrari badge on a Fiat seems a bit incongrous, but an Abarth badge just seems right at home. Cant see either having much of an advantage over the other in terms of residuals, both are pretty desirable
Need to think of a special edition name for our old heap, Isopon Special ? Fiat 500 Abarthtion ?

This is the one.. Meridien Modena : Fiat 500 Ferrari Special Edition.
IMHO the residuals on the ferrari are going to be much stronger.
Not really bothered about how quick it is- I have been known to use the smart for work- and have plenty of other stuff for going fast.
Anyway, I'm getting old.

Residuals from this price are going to be better as it's still effectively a new car

In fact I think sometimes drivers of certain brands look like they are trying too hard and I suspect that the driver is desperately avoid getting outed, Monaro, Jesus, that just shouts "in denial"
I susect that owing a "Gay" car will get you more women than a manly one as they will see you as approachable and possibly gay and want to ask you about your 500/Micra CC or go shopping with you and then you can lay the truth on them and get some action, a Scoob just seems to a way of getting 99.99 % of the female population to assume you are a single, socially inept, IT mummies boy who spends all his money on his noisy and embarassing car !

Hmmmm, an edit still with spelling mistakes Anyhow, I've not owned an Impreza for nearly a year now and actually drive a Golf Gti estate right now, a real fanny magnet eh? Like I've just said, I've sold quite a gayish car recently, but can't understand the appeal of a 500.

I had hoped for a little bit more from a 1.4 16v in both performance and economy, but i suppose it does weigh the best part of a tonne. Handles nicely though and it's specced very well for a £11k car! Unlike a mini, it even makes sense if you don't look at it as a fashion statement.
I've had a few guys come up to me asking about how it handles and goes, followed by "thinking of getting one... for my errrr wife". Yeh right
