Default Bug STi gone. Gone for M5

Two words. Big. Fast.

Total mile muncher. 100mph@3100rpm = 27mpg

Got 94 miles with £20 quid today town and country driving combined and that included a few full throttle blasts.

Its big though, too big to beat a Subaru on A roads IMHO, but for motorway, straight line and genral crusing, fantastic.

Electric headrests are a bit **** though........

E40 I guess? We were out yesterday (mrs was driving) and one pulled up at the traffic lights. No idea what exhaust setup it had but damn it sounded sweet as it pulled off. Even the mrs commented

I've only got 1 pic at the minute as its rained since I got it.

As for the maintenance, I dont do a lot of miles per year, maybe 6000 at a push so plenty of time to save up!!
It does use a lot of oil though, only had it 4 days and the oil light has came on once already on the way home but the onboard computer does give you plenty of warning.

What a hoot to drive in the wet with the DSC off

Dunlop Sports are £150 each for the rears.
The fronts are 235x40x18 so should be a bit cheaper. It still has the speed limiter on it as I found out today.....then promptly warped the front discs.

I've done the maf test and all seems well.........at the moment.

The vanos is a little noisy on start up but as soon as Dr Vanos gives me a price for the teflon 'o' rings and new gear wheels, they'll be going on so it should be tip top after that.

I'm led to believe that the limiter is only effective in 6th gear and it should pull further in 5th gear... might be worth a try once you replace the front brakes!!

I'm seeing an average of 24mpg. Usually get 80-100 miles from £20

Its the 'o' rings that fail in the Vanos. £60 for new rings but BMW dont carry them so they just supply a full new Vanos unit. which is where the £2g bill comes into it

to be fair i use my car mainly around town , so if you use it on motorways you;ll probably get 20+ mpg.
they are great cars ....to own ....but bear in mind these were £62K+ new
so cost of petrol would not of enter the equation in the buyer's mind
great car though if you can run one , but be prepare to dig deep into yr wallets when something goes wrong .
i had to replace the headlight controller on my car its costed £265 in part with the Bmw dealer having to encode it to the car's ecu(full days labour) all came to near £600 !!!!
just to get the headlight to work

Can't remember if I've posted these before but:

Had her for about 5 years and love her. She's starting to look quite tired now not sure if I want to get rid or spend a few K on paint and wheels done.

Expensive to run? It's a myth, no more so than a Scooby or any other performance car - M5Board has loads of tips for DIY.
