Even standard the 535d a real q-car. Tuned it will be awesome.

What was wrong with the Bentley? Too footballers wives?

I just got rid of mine, spend £3000 in last 6 months, needed a new turbo, new down pipe, some emisson's valve thing inside intake manifold, also getting problems with driveline jerks, so I got rid, so if you think your pockets are big enough!, Ive changed to a subaru, hoping for better reliability!

How many cars do you need to go through in a year? Lol

Still haven't seen you about. Been keeping an eye out whenever I've been around Lanark. Your plates end with SF don't they?

I've sold my Impreza now. Have a Focus ST170 at the moment, but looking for an 02/03 UK Sti.

Just rambling off topic now...love the 535d's though. My ex's Dad has a 530d M sport. Looks and goes great! Total luxury, and power whenever you want it.

Seems to be a theme I have experienced with ALL VAG products.

Lovely in theory, well made and just not involving.

Thought you didn't get on with your 535d?

Anyhoo, lots of people can remap the 535d, you don't need to pay the DMS tax. Superchips for example is about £500 and they come to you.

Wouldn't put a tuning box on my car - the injectors cost a bomb.

STi-04 - be a bit careful. The inlaws had a 535d Touring and the computer died in stages. Lights wouldn't turn off, randon stereo action, then all the electrics died. The i-drive was utterly hateful (which is partly why I'm looking at the 335d instead) and BMW just couldn't sort it out - and said it was one of many with similar problems.
He ended up getting rid of it after 4 months.

However it was a joy to drive and the mid range performance is unreal.
I'd go to DMS - they aren't the cheapest but they do a very decent job.

The M Sport looks better but is very crashy and stiff. I'd also look at top spec SEs as well. The M Sport kit is a bit like the S-Line kit - it's high class bazzing that doesn't do the ride any favours. Oh and the run flats are cr4p. I think the suspension needs tweaking to take normal tyres - worth considering.

Story is that they switched to run-flats late in the development process - so I think normal tyres would work quite well. In fact, I intend to test the theory soon.

535d's are astonishing motors..tuned right and will throw out 350bhp with over 480lbs of torque...not bad for a diesel at all.

No it was because i thought at the time, that it was a lot of money to be sitting about airports as i done a lot of travelling then.

Spoke to someone who put a tuning box on my E320 Cdi & he can do the same for the 535D, allegedly he just downloads them from a site he pays a license fee for & its sent to the box.

Cars sitting in the garage at the moment, only thing its missing is paddles for the gearbox & it would be there in my eyes.

Thanks mate

The first 535d i had, was on run flats but they changed the wheels for me to 19" without them, prefer the M Sport to the SE, i dont have the pipes & slippers yet

Cheers for the info though.

I like a change
Yeah they do, although i have another one but i cant shout it out over the airwaves & its going on the 535 over the next couple of days.

How are you finding the ST ? I had one a few years back & couldnt get on with it, keep finding a misfire just a the top of the rev range that Ford couldnt find anything wrong with it, as you can imagine the car lasted 6 weeks due to this.

The ST is pretty average. I bought it from a guy in Aberdeen, and the first time I put my foot to floor when I was heading home, I thought I was back in a 1.2 again(first car); it was so slow compared to the Impreza, I was shocked.

Haven't found it that exciting to drive either. It came with a set of budget tyres on the front, so I know the lack of grip is down to them, but I can't be doing with paying to change them to find out...I'd rather have 4 wheel drive back.

The idea behind it was to just have a car I could do loads of miles in without costing me much(low running costs compared to the Subaru). It's got to go though, I've had it 3 weeks and am bored already!

Believe it or not, I was actually considering a 330d before I saw the Focus on Pistonheads. Only reason I bought that was because it jumped out as being very cheap considering it's mint and has only done 28k. Hpi'd it to be on the safe side.

Who knows what it'll be next...but like you say, a quick turbo diesel could be a good idea. Great results from mapping/chipping as you obviously know since you started this thread!

STi - Bentley to an Focus ST?!!

The ST170 is still my all time favourite FWD car for handling (Not tried an ITR). Shame the engine was a bit lame - I find engines have always been a weakpoint in Fords.

A long long time ago mate, after i had my Sti MY04, i had to buy a corsa diesel to run around in for 6 weeks, then i got the ST, then it all started from there, i think i traded the ST in for a C Class. The ST was a pre reg 54 with 32 miles on it when i got it, think it cost me 11k ??

I enjoyed the boom while it happened & one of my businesses is supplying plant machinery to opencast mines all over Europe. We still need coal

Ps the Bentley was 05 registered so it wasnt mega bucks compared to cost new & i lost just over 1k when i sold it, so nothing ventured & all that blah blah
