What's your general thoughts on the car and are they easily tuned to free up some more power?
Been looking at the 110bhp version MY2000.

Never driven an A3 Tdi, but plently of Golfs & A4's with the same engine. Probably more Re-maps on the market for this than any other diesel engine you'd care to mention, so in other words, very easily tuned! 110bhp + re-map should get you to 135-140 bhp quite easily. That should make it go very well indeed.

as above, the 110bhp tunes to 130ish bhp and 220ft-lb of torque with ease & reliability and will still give 45+ mpg as soon as you show it an open road.

The remappers most often used seem to be Revo, Jabbasport, and Upsolute, IIRC the remaps are around £200 for the 110bhp models

mate of mine had his mapped golf gttdi got it 170bhp the torque was amazing could possibly give a scoob a good go up a hill LOL

And the golf engines which they are in the audi and seats last forever, only problem is my mate moans about how much the clutch will cost because it has a dual mass flywheel or something like that.which works our expensive think he said about 300-400

A remap does not address chronic wheelspin in the wet or the very poor handling though I've owned 3 Golf gt tdi's and will be getting another in a few weeks time

On the Fabia VRS a new clutch/ dm flywheel was aroung £700!!!!!!!!

High mileage engines can have problems (quite common actually for engines over 100k to have injector issues on these engines) so watch out for that, they just get clogged and need replacing, very unrefined for a diesel though, very old school that lets it down the most, but fairly tunable.

My mate had a 1.8t A3 before he bought a beemer... they are very tuneable engines. His was remapped to about 190bhp iirc and still returned something like 36mpg
Stick a bigger turbo on there and you could be running 220+bhp
Defo a car worth considering imo

The 1.9 lump that is common on all the VAG is know as being a bit unrefined,
Just for a comparison try the 150 bhp Alfa 147 jtdm, I have had mine since May averages 47mpg and leaves all the Golfs and Audi way behind. The Lusso spec interior is very plush, and Autolusso in Luton do a plug in box to take them up to 180bhp and around 300 ft/pd torque. Def worth a look.

Sorry mate but thats bollox, i had one of these in standard form and it did 25mpg.

You sure he didn't have a diesel TDi?

theres a number of diffrent types of 1.9tdi engines avalible, pretty much based on the orginal. the 110 i think if you were looking at new cars, is the 1.9tdie, which is the low emmision one, (super rare, due to having a ****e lead time on newys), brilliant car though 30 squid tax a year.

u can also get a 130hp, and a 120hp, 1.9tdi, main diffrences are diffrent fuel rails etc etc.

depending on your budget id say push it to an 04 model onwards as the cars completely diffrent. your gonna get 50-60mpg on all of the varients. and performance diffrences are minimal.

You telling me that an Audi A3 1.8T returns the same mpg as my WRX?!

I had an 04 Audi 1.8 TFSI and it returned on average 39mpg, and no I don't drive like a granny lol

Er, yes if thats what your WRX does. Being as i live in a urban area thats what it did. Your 04 A4 would have the newer FSI engines which have better fuel economy than my A3 but doubtful 39mpg unless on motorway and A roads.

Missus has got a Golf Mk4 GTI 2.0 non turbo and that again does 28mpg max (URBAN)

You cannot really quote manufacturers figures as these are never accurate
