Default I'm being tempted by some old skool!

Don't really know why, but I've found myself taking more notice of Sapphire Cosworths at the moment and even found myself browsing Auto trader and Piston Heads looking at them!

I once had a 1.8GL (Yeehaa! ) Sapphire, always fancied a Cosworth but never got one.

Are all the "good" ones gone now and all thats left are thrashed-to-death or do you still find good examples at reasonable prices for sale?

mmmmm.......cossie!

All the above currently for sale on Piston Heads!

Who's been nicking and hoarding all of the original Alloy wheels? Those after-market jobbies look rough and make the cars look cr@p.

my fiancee;s grandfather had one from brandnew. believe it was an 86-88' model, cant remember the reg year. basically he was the only owner and kept it until 2007. it did have over 100,000miles on it as he lived in a village a few miles from scunny, and used it most days to travel to court (barrister).

he got a good price for it as he was a mature driver, one owner, a massive thick folder of receipts and the car wasnt chavvd up. totally standard inc wheels bodywork etc, apart from a different backbox, but from ford apparently. think he got £7k for it.

oh, it was a dark grey coloured one (saloon with 4 wheel drive if thats anything else to go by)

Still got the originals on mine as well - they handle best on the 15s - 17s are like riding on bricks imo - only reason I would go to bigger wheels is for bigger brakes and better tyre choice

I love them, was seriously considering getting one before I got my Impreza.

Only reason I went for the Impreza is I thought being Jap and a fair bit newer it would be more reliable!

Still have a soft spot for them and if I had the money and could justify it to my family id have one tomorrow.

This particular car is not only as mint as the love child of a Trebor Extra Strong and a packet of Polos but it's bloody quick too. Single handedly kills the "there's no good ones left" myth.

Used to own this one which was mint and had the Castle 340bhp conversion - the only car I ever made money on when I sold it.

Thet were great cars. Good ones are rare though...reflected in the price of pristine ones. The funny thing is, back in 1990 when I had my first Sapphire Cosworth, many were all doom and gloom and how 'down market' they were. However people who knew about cars respected them for what they were...a super quick car that was affordable. If you get the chance of a decent Sapphire Cosworth go for it. They still make me look and admire.

Almost exactly what "Fast Lane" said back when they tested one in '88 against the Thema 8.32 and E30 M3 "Never mind the badge...."

I had a saff cossie a few years back, loved it to bits. The only problem was it kept breaking down!! As im a spaz when it comes to mechanics, it cost me a small fortune to keep it on the road.

As above, that black one looks cool!!

Twelve years ago I was sort of tempted by them, but at that time they were all owned by chavs and tossers, kind of like Classic Imprezas now

So I went a bit left field and bought this instead;

Still own it now
