Depreciation proof?
I know most (all?) cars depreciate but was wondering what would be the best "fun" and sporty car you could get for a for a budget of about 7-10K that you could sell in about 2 years and recoup most of the money spent...
Ideally nothing too old, or potentially unreliable!

if you could fing another 3 grand you could buy an escort cosworth then in 5 years time sell it for more than you brought it for! if i had 13k to blow this seems like the car to buy for no depreciation

Most performance cars a few years old will hold there own very well. Apart from being a petrol head its one of the reasons I always muck about with performance cars, and performance cars generally around the 1996-1999 age hold there value whether it be an elise, M3 Evo conv, TVR chimera, MX5, Skyline, Scoob, Mist EVO, etc,etc
But as said above for a proper little toy for around the 7-9K mark the elise has to be a good bet, depends on the type of car you are looking for.

If it's going to be a 2nd car AND will be garaged AND will be used for limited miles, from personal experience i'd recommend an integrale evo.
10k buys a good one which will be worth more in a couple of years provided the condition is maintained. Note that they do rot and do go wrong so utmost maintainence is required!
They also make you feel like a million dollars, best feel good car i've had by a long long long long way. If you don't like attention (of the good kind) then dont bother...you expect blokes to look over/comment on the car but it surprised me the number of car-head ladies and old fogies who would drool over it.....even helped me pick up one very fine looking young lady who i was with for a nearly a year LOL!!!
Uber cool

After considering all sorts for all of the same reasons, I've just bought a 1999 Alpina B10 V8.
Worth not far off half the amount an equivalent M5, all for a mint, 40k miler one owner car with 350bhp and a bit of rarity value thrown in.
No Vanos or nikasil issues to worry about either. It's gonna drink, but it's a second car anyway, and owners on the Alpina forum seem to quote respectable MPG figures (for a V8) anyway. Time will tell.
It's already depreciated £55k, so don't think it can go much further
And the extra £10k saved by not buying an M5 can go into the VX220 fund.

VW Corrado VR6 Storm.
Get one in low mileage in great condition for £6/7k and it will, if anything, appreciate.
Whatever you get, get a good one (I mean REALLY get a GOOD one) otherwise it will depreciate. Most cars that don't depreciate are the ones in tip-top condition - so you must keep it this way.

Some very interesting options! In no particular order...
Cossie - bang on about already being a classic, but would be scared off due to no mechanical ability whatsoever! As said, hard to find a mint example too...
Intergrale - As with the cossie, fantastic car but with no ability to fix it if (when!) it goes wrong.
MX5 - Already got one, want a change!
Elise - Too small (? I find the MX cramped as I'm 6ft 6) and problems with the engine? Maybe a bit too raw for most of my mileage which is in and around the war-torn streets of SE London... Speedbump central!
DC2 - Tried one, liked it and am looking for a good example. Would you go for a UK or JDM version? I'd imagine the UK would be "easier" to re-sell and insure?
Alpina - Mmmmmm, was looking at some big engined 5 series and this would be an interesting choice.
Corrado - Always liked these, will have a little look! Noted that it MUST be a minter!
Any others? Was thinking Mercs (W124 series maybe?)
