I agree that they look nice, but they are ****. Basically they dont do corners, but if you dont mind that you get a missve vehicle for a cheapish price. Still pay nearly double for one what the yanks wld pay.

Couple mods could probably tighten up the handling to a satisfactory level. I would get a 2nd hand one thats taken the hit, but I cant stand american cars so wouldnt!.

I like the look of that chrysler, should be a giggle with a 5.7 Hemi V8...34K OTR according to an ad in this weeekends paper

For the meantime, I'll pay my £19.25 a week in co car tax, and stick with this

Estate??..pah. No wonder your still in the stalls.

It's a shooting brake my good man, highly useful for stowage of my grouse when I'm out shooting on my 10000acre estate.

Jankel is the name to search for. Bespoke conversions for those who can afford it. That said the factory will probably build one for you if can foot the bill.

If money were no object and an estate car were required it would have to be a Roos Aston shooting Brake!!

Have a look at the link

'Shooting Brake' love the term - reminds me of my Nan who always referred to estates as this - anyone know it's origins???

4/5 years ago Goodwood had an area for 'estates/shooting brakes' and there were some well unlikely donor cars there - Astons, XJSs, Ferraris (front engined models) plus things like Corvettes and other coupe derived designs - some looked well sleek & carried the roof lines low at the rear, others looked like Luton Vans!!

Trust me, as beautiful those Aston Virages look. You DO NOT want to drive one. Great to look at but driving one completely shattered the desire for one. Underpowered (non-vantage) over-tall gearing (=lethargic off the mark) awful autobox making it worse, bone jarring suspension, steering that forces you to go in which direction it pleases and brakes better suited to a Fiat 500. Not to mention the bodywork turning into white powder (aluminium corrosion). This is why you can pick up some examples for as little as £35K, not bad consider they cost the same as a small house when new.

If you do buy one book it into AM Works service and give them at least £100K to get them to properly sort the above (which they can and will).

My grandad used this term as well, as well as Landcrab which was his old Morris 1800, still no idea why ?

shooting brake
British
station wagon.
[Origin: 1910–15; earlier, a light horse-drawn wagonette; cf. break, brake bodiless carriage frame, wagonette (< ?)]

Also, Landcrab was the nickname for the 1800 due to it's odd looks and the way it looks like it's going a bit sideways when viewed from the rear (Maxi's also looked like this). This is because of the way the body tapers in at the back.
