I'm thinking about swopping my Subaru for a Supra/ Evo 6. After doing a very quick on line quote for both cars I was surprised to see that the Supra was cheaper to insure and it didn't even need a tracker (unlike the Evo).
This has made me sway heavily towards the Supra. Are there any sites and can anyone recommend insurance companies?
Is it better to look at importing one through a reputable dealer given that the UK ones seem quite rare. Ideally I'm looking for a 6 speed manual and a 98 or later.

Lust ya cheeky git!
Yep - hop on over to MKIVSUPRA.NET, use search first of all as loads has been asked before, then post any further q's
UK Supra's are dirt cheap to insure, but usually higher mileage and slower than JSpec cars

Insurance on the UK specs is cheap, mines modified and I pay £550 fully comp, on an import with the same mods I was paying £950..
If its a UK spec then try Bell Direct, Tescos, Admiral and A-plan, if its an import then head over to mkivsupra.net and check the imports section, theres various companies in there that will give a good quote.
Also worth running a few searches on www.mkivsupra.net/bbs for insurance to see what people are paying.
Its a completely different experience to the Scoob, ScoobyJawa can no doubt give you the full run down as hes gone from Scoob to Soop (and fitted Racelogic to avoid those hairy moments when you try and push 300bhp through fat rear tyres on wet roads).

Jap- 276bhp
Uk- 326bhp
Uk- 326bhp
Jspecs have ceramic turbos which spool quicker, so they are faster, though the UK has a better top end due to the steel turbos and different ratio diff, but when can you use more than 150mph JSpecs are also cheaper to get more BHP from and don't suffer from having a MAF sensor.
I know which I'd have - oh, hang on, I have

Hi JB
Just to clarify - thats at the wheels not fly, and its probably a bit more with the mods I've done.
IMHO the racelogic is a must, moreso for winter and rain than anything else, but it certainly helps tame the car as the 2nd turbo comes on line - very handy if you're mid corner etc!
Yup, in a nutshell, I've not come across a scoob I can't beat in a straight line yet, but yes, in those infamous twistys the scoob has it! I do miss the turn in, chuckability and cornering ability of the scoob, but the supe makes up for it in so many other ways!
If you want any specific Q's answering - whack em up

Racelogic is the best mod I've done to a car! It really is a performance mod as you can get away with so much at faster speeds
Obviously its not invincible, but its darn good, and I'd recommend anyone with a supra to fit it!
I paid 520 for the kit and 150 fitting, though if you are handy with wiring you can do it yourself as its well documented.

I can't stress how good the Racelogic TC is. Am pushing over 300 at the wheels in the MR2 Tubby. In the dry its fine with the GSD3s, but in the wet it was total nightmare. But with the Racelogic its amazing. You can drive so much more confidently. Can also adjust the slip angles and all sorts.
Unfortunately i recently sold it and now am gone Motec

Fantastic cars, RLTC is for poofs
Seriously though, I thought of RLTC when I first bought it but fitted HKS Suspension and decent tyres and even in the wet it's so well controlled and I prefer it without any TC at all.
I prefer it to drive than the Subaru in just about every area, maybe I'm getting old not as practical though!
Oh, and there's one for sale here

Well according to the RR 320bhp standard so might be worth reading up a bit more
Astra GSI!!!! LMFAO!!! Yeah mate, not lost to anything yet, including E46 M3 last week (oh but perhaps Astra GSi's can worry them too )

Standard J-Spec turtles run 14.1 seconds at the 1/4 mile - that is spot on with the power and the weight it has. On par with 300ZX or a 208 BHP WRX Scooby.

Seem to have started something here.....
On a serious note though wont I feel much difference between my 280bhp Impreza (similar torque) to the Supra. To be honest that was one of the main reasons I wanted one. Appreciate top end there's no contest.
Cavalier Turbo?? Usually they do surprise me ok....only because I cant see to overtake them due to the masses of blue smoke that they tend to emit from the exhaust.

Cosworth - I'm not gonna bother rising to you - I own one so I know what the facts are, always makes me laff when people who don't think they know everything about them!!! Standard Jspecs regularly put in low 13s at the pod. They regularly put out on average 315-320 at the fly on any RR you'd like to stick one on, equating to about about 260-270 at the rear wheels, more on a 6sp as auto's lose a little more through the drivetrain.
Quite simply, your first post was nothing more than trolling and you've done nothing to help RLE with the information he was previously getting, simply degrading a useful thread into a "Cavaliers can whup Supras - ner ner" thread
RLE - don't worry, I won't rise anymore, just don't believe everything people write as they think its gospel My scoob was 270-275bhp and believe me, the Supe is quite a bit faster! And with simply a decat and FCD and decent spark plugs you'll see at least 350bhp, more likely 370, I've seen some coming in at 395 if you add an uprated fuel pump. As I said, cheap HP

Neil, any plans to go for a big single & lose the twin setup, i must admit they really look horny with the large rear wing, soooo much better looking than the 300ZX

Hi Pulse!!!! Good price that people!!
Hi Andy,
Not at the moment! Bought the car in Aug so still fresh as is. To be honest I don't think I'd ever go big single, to much lag for me, small single would be ok as I'd still want the car as driveable as possible, so full boost by 3.5k really. And since going single means all sorts of other costs hybrid twins is probably the way I'd go, not worth it for a small single!
The stock Jap turbos pump out around 395-400bhp when set up right with not much cost etc, so thats kind of my initial thoughts, then perhaps when I've had the car a year or two, get the hybrids
Glad you like them BTW , I agree with you, but still like the 300zx, I guess you have to really as it was Nissan releasing that car which made Toyota come up with the MKIV!

I was joking around in the first few posts, but now you really do appear like a ignorant fanboy..
A REAL rolling road will give you measured power AT THE WHEELS, not some "equated" figure based on computerised formulae! I have seen countless rolling road graphs in the UK all quoting by the flywheel HP, simply because it pleases the average Joe (the customer).
The J-spec Supra is not a Neo. It doesnt change what is around it, it doesnt change the laws of physics! It makes a restricted 280 HP according to the gentleman's agreement in the JDM (unlike R33/34 Skylines), it runs an average 1/4 mile time of 14 seconds with experienced test drivers.
A stock J-spec supra runs with the same boost as a Euro/US spec. But you *wishful-think* they run the SAME 1/4 mile times and make the SAME power as the Euro & US spec, although they have smaller injectors, lower lift/shorter duration camshafts!
Standard Jspecs regularly put in low 13s at the pod.
The term J-spec says it all. How can the average Joe know what was done to the car before it was brought over to the UK? And how do YOU know it wasnt the rare 1998 Model with VVTi system? (Yes, there's a 350+ HP J-spec in 1998).
