EGR issues (engine light on ) after VW recall software update.
DSG judder when hot on second gear or in reverse
Condensor failure(air con won’t hold gas)..it should have been replaced by now
Electric coolant pump failure (engine light on, sometimes limp mode).
Instrument panel failure causing non-start (engine is immobilised if the instrument panel fails, looses communication on the CAN network or is disconnected).
Rear brake calipers sticking
Turbo actuator failure (massive lag, underboost fault codes).
GTD uses the higher output version of the 2.0 TDi lump that’s used across all the models/makes.
Other than that pretty solid cars. No idea on wheels on that year, think they are 18” diamond cut multi-spokes which go very nasty as soon as the laquer is chipped, so wouldn’t surprise me if most have either been replaced or powder coated.

Had the same actuator failure on my Passat, paid someone else to do it as there is very little room at the back of the engine, I should imagine it's even worse on the golf, also had 2 of the 3 Exhaust Gas Temperature Sensors go at £140 each, now on 107k.
At least with the Golf you don't have to worry about the poor oil pump drive design that found it's way into the Passat and Audis.

Secondly a GTD is not really a ‘hot hatch’, It’s more of a trim spec with the 170ps engine, of which you can get in other trim specs on other models (unlike for example, the Golf R).
pretty certain the earlier one had the standard duty/height springs and shocks (unlike the GTi), will need to check the build sheet under the boot floor to confirm that.
Fourthly, I can also assure you that the same year Astra/zafira DTi will pollute just as badly as the EGR will be clogged up so much so the real world Nox reduction is marginal. Comparing a worn EU5 diesel to a brand new car regardless of fuel/power source is pointless; If the buyer had the money for a new car they wouldn’t be looking at one that’s used and ten years old. A fairer comparison is a ten year old Prius, which fetch a premium as they appeal to congestion tax dodgers and uber drivers so you will get a poorer condition car for the same money.
