Default I need another V8 in my life

First world problems

After having a CLS500, a BMW 645 Coupe and a BMW 645 Convertible in the last 10 months I feel the need for another V8. Hindsight been a brilliant thing I should have kept the 500 but hey ho.

Currently have an 06 Merc CLK320CDI Sport - great car and spec but the derv noise does nothing for me although it is a torque monster returning great mpg's. I only bought it as stop gap car but 3 months later ....

Was thinking of either a CLK500/55. BM's are a no no as I'm fed up with chasing oil leaks. I've never known such a poor designed engine that likes to leak oil for fun! Preferably something under the higher tax band.

Any other marques worth considering?

only 2 v8's i would consider are the jaguar xfr 5.0 supercharged or the vxr8 6.2 supercharged, nothing else really does it for me.

If you considering a CLK500, then try to get a CLK55, or if the budget allows a C63

Happy days. When cars sounded amazing

Do not care how fast an electric car goes. Means absolutely nothing to me compared to an engine on song

And now they don't make them anymore they are becoming rarer and holding value quite well.

Some great suggestions that I hadn't thought of so far

Would prefer to spend up to £10k which I should have stated that in the first place although could go more if it holds it's money quite well. Already got an SLK so another 2 seater is not on the cards.

Not sure if I'm old enough for a Jag yet (just turned 50 ) but there seems quite a few V8 R's about - what are they like to live with?

£10k on a V8 is buying trouble you wish to avoid IMHO. Places to leak oil/coolant from and access difficulties to chains/belts/sensors could infuriate.

I purchased my old CLK55 for under 10K, but it went to a Mercedes specialist for a pre purchase inspection.
It also had remarkably low miles on it for an 8 year old car, the previous owner (a managing director) had a 4 mile round trip to work each day.

But I agree with John Banks, you could be buying someone else's problems unless you do your homework.
The CLK55 didn't cost me much on resale either, I sold it 1.5 years later for pretty much what I paid for it. I did get originally for a very good price to be fair.

Under 10k and v8 is a hard to meet criteria in the UK.
If you could find a little extra and get a e39 m5 and they shouldn't loose any value now.. same thing with either the e55 amg or e63 amg. All cars I would consider although I think my next car may be a e60 m5 v10.

VANOS and SMG problems are rife on V10 M5, but it is really comfortable, sounds amazing and has genuine top end thrust.

I had some coolant leaks on the turbos on my S8 V8, but warranty covered it, they are easy to get to in the Vee and are now the subject of a recall. Otherwise it has been great in the just over 3 years I've had it, but it only has 30000 miles so far. It is my favourite V8 I've driven, has a variety of sounds depending on load and revs, gets 30mpg at cruise, and surprisingly likes to oversteer as it puts as much power to the back wheels as an E39 M5, and only as much as a Leon Cupra R to the front wheels

I have a strange hankering for a Passat W8, I don't know why. It's not that reliable, not that quick and I hate working on the Audi front suspension setup (notably the pinch bolt for the upper ball joints seizing in the hub carrier ).

Sounds nice though.

Slight curve ball but having a drive of an immaculate low mileage 4.2 V8 SC Range Rover Sport tomorrow. The one I'm looking at is a bit over your budget but they can be had for £10k or less. This is for my partner as she's miffed my RRS lives in Wales now and wants her own!

All the V8 noise in a slightly larger package

For the money the VXR8
For the Sound the C or E 63 AMG

For the lounge the Dyson Total Clean V8, which is about as close as I'm getting to a V8 right now

My w215 cl55k was a laugh. Getting hard to come by now but excellent cars. Should consider one.
v8s are for pansies though. S65 AMG was my fav muscle car. Twin turbo V12 god tier motoring, didn't enjoy the mpg though...
Would love an s8 V10 at some point when funds allow. Pure Jekyl and Hyde

I feel your pain, I'm currently driving my brothers 06 RS4 Avant that has been a little fettled with whilst he's at work. Its blown all the wadding out the aftermarket straight through exhaust and whilst it does make your ears bleed under 2K RPM it does sing on full chatt.

I am seriously considering running my scoob for 2 trips over to Germany once its back up and running then selling it along with my van I use for dicking about and going to work and getting a 3 year old RS6 mmmmmmm

I'm in the same predicament at the moment. Considering selling the FSTI and getting something V8 and nasty. I always thought I'd get a C63 to be honest and have been close on a few occasions, but the XFR Jag with supercharged V8 is starting to look very good.

To update the topic. I went for another CLS but AMG version. Lovely car and not as bad on fuel as I expected.
