These are diabolical, cheap for a reason. Don't fall for the fact they resemble an is250.

I just seen the fact it's a newer model, I still wouldn't touch them but if it has a detailed service history you may get lucky.

Never driven one myself, but know several people who've run various Toyota badged motors with basically the same lump, and struggling to see what can be so terrible ahout them. At that price I think you can afford to take a punt, if it's got reasonable miles and history.

Definitely will have a DPF, in any event.

The ones I've come across with this engine (Toyota 2.2D-4D) are via sales pitches which in turn are usually auction junk, or taxis.

Head gasket issues, hydro locking, cooling system pressurising
Gear selection issues on manual gearbox (internal baulk/synchro fault)
And EGR issues....sticking open.

Now the latter is very noticeable on cars without s DPF...they spew out clouds of black smoke. Ones with DPFs don't smoke; they just clog up and knacker the DPF instead!

I'd certainly interrogate as to why it's for sale; and deforest check under the radiator cap for any metallic/copper liquid...a sure sign somebody has used K-seal as a temporary repair.

It's a diesel, there's your problem.

Given the changes to the MOT i'd seriously avoid old diesels. any smoke out of the exhaust and its a fail and a big repair bill.
