Really sorry for you. Just makes me wonder if we've become too trusting in modern security technology and if a good old fashioned bollard, wheel lock etc would have slowed them down or prevented it. Hindsight is a wonderful thing however and won't get your car back, just hope they get nicked and spend a few years playing mummy behind bars.

Funny that you mention a steering/wheel lock. You're the third person who's mentioned that to me, so I think you're right and you can't beat the good old fashioned physical measures.
Guys, I need some help with the insurance claim. I've had a good look around now and it seems that either prices have risen or I got a very good deal when I bought.
Every similar car I can find (inc the fairly high spec of my car) are about £5k more than I paid for mine.
I didn't have gap insurance or a guaranteed value but is it possible that the insurance company would pay me more than I paid for the vehicle?
Thanks

probably not going to pay you more, but you might at least get closer to what you paid.
When they make you the usual low ball offer just send them links to similar cars for more money, you'll have to play the game with them but stick to your guns. I managed to get over a grand more than the first offer and had them remove my excess too.

Thanks, I've had feedback from elsewhere that it is possible to get more than you paid if you can prove your case.
How did you get them to remove the excess?

Not very often you get to stick it to insurance companies... so I took full advantage and also rebuilt the car and got it back on the road, bumper, bonnet, wings and doors and windscreen for £350 and trailered the parts out, ran it for another 4yrs and recently sold for 800 euro.

Not sure why it took so long, They have to give a bit of time incase its found, but I also had the integration from the insurance company where they phone you and ask you the story of how/when it was stolen and what you was doing on the day it was stolen/have you got both keys still etc etc, and once you have told them, they will ask you the same question and get you to repeat the story.
I too didnt have GAP insurance and I lost £2,500 which was the deposit of the car, the rest of the payment went to VW finance to clear the outstanding balance and the monthly payment that I had paid from the last 7 months I got back!!!

Scoobyboy1, yes I'm waiting to be interviewed by the insurance company. Who they should be interviewing are the car manufacturers and asking why their security systems are so pants!

Hi,
There's an interesting story in our local Abu Dhabi paper today.
http://www.thenational.ae/world/sout...le-in-thailand
It shows many supercars being stolen from the UK are ending up for sale in Thailand!
Maybe your Porsche is amongst the cars/gangs that the police are investigating?
Cheers
Steve

Does seem a bit bizarre, I've got a Toyota with keyless entry and there's a small LED on the fob that flashes when it's talking to the car. Out of curiosity I tried walking round the car to see what the range is like and it doesn't go much further than the base of the A pillar.

Has your car been in a garage lately? Anywhere the key was away from you?
The guy standing by the door was probably there for nothing else only to split you open if you open the door.

Either he was standing by the door to give me a slap if I came out or he was using one of those gizmos to hack my keyless go key.

Apparently its very easy with a gizmo that can be bought for a few hundred pounds according to google anyway.
Thanks

Are we really that lazy these days that we can't press a key fob to lock or unlock a car. Why are all manufactures pushing these keyless features?

That's a very good question. I would never have specced it on a new car but didn't have a choice on a used one. And tbh at the time I had no idea what a security risk it was.
Now I wouldn't buy a car that has it no matter what.

I suspect your car would have been stolen regardless of its security in terms of keys or keyless, being keyless its probably saved you and your family the trauma of proffesional theives entering your property in the middle of the night.
Swings and rounadabouts i suppose.....
Im a member of a Golf R forum and there are many members who express negative views on keyless and yet every theft reported on the forum has been a house break in for the keys, not one theft has been via keyless surprisingly.
Im of the view that if they want your car one way or another they'll get it.....sadly.
