Default The continuing saga of Alcazar's Astra.

Been to a local guy today, clonking noises from, I believe, the rear suspension.

Despite having been driven by two mechanics, and having produced said noise for both of them, neither of them could find anything wrong: no broken springs (my suspicion), no dodgy shockers, no loose mountings, no suspension joints or bushes damaged and no problems with the exhaust, loose, touching or too close to other components. They checked suspension both front and rear.

I did Google it before taking it in, and it looks like I'm not the only one to have these phantom noises

Why not ask on one of the many VX forums, you may find its a common issue, that is a easy fix if in the know.

JDM Stig: sorry, that's where Google took me, plus I'm a member on one.

What I did find is that it's quite common in Astra cars having 18" wheels, but no-one has yet found out what is doing it, let alone a cure Problems seemed to be in SRi and VXR models.

I'm tempted to suggest your best bet might be just to set the dam thing on fire and have done with it. Though given your track record with it so far, you'll probably just end up with a small burn mark and a car that smells of smoke.
