Default xDrive in the 40i cars for the first time

PistonHeads run a story about the facelifted BMW 1 and 2 series having xDrive in the UK yet I can't seem to find any official confirmation that this is true. Anyone know if this is just a mistake on their part with the Euro version?

This might make me think twice about choosing the Golf R as the next motor, if this is true.

Only comes with the Gay gearbox option though.

Jaguar have done the same with the F-Type. If you want AWD, you have to have an Auto gearbox. Why not offer a manual box too?

Ahh but someone will say the auto is faster and will change gear better than you can.

I don't care. I like having three pedals and AWD traction.

I'd also bin the power steering if given half the chance too, but I'd probably be a minority on that one

The X-Drive isn't coming to the UK apparently, not on the straight six petrol models anyway, you could always get X-Drive on the euro models, something to do with fitting issues on the rhd cars.

Next series (not the current F2x) M140i will be an xDrive, but it will also be a 4pot.

Noooooo!

If I want AWD with a 4cylinder turbo I'd have bought a Merc, VW, Audi, Ford, Scoob, Mitsi, Mini etc.

Next thing you'll tell me it'll be a traverse engine and borrow the chassis off the 2-Active tourer / Mini All-4

To be honest, the BMW 8 speed auto box is pretty impressive.

ZF boxes are superb. So is the lunacy with rwd, they are very entertaining and have surprisingly good grip in the dry. The only downside compared to AWD is the better stability you get in iffy wet/icy/snowy conditions.

The ZF is a good box, just look out for the dreaded whine which has affected quite a few of them, had mine replaced under warranty when it was whining in reverse, was just short of an £8000 bill.
